With the end of 2022 comes the close of some beloved series. Some closed with tied-up storylines, while others left off on cliffhangers. I am sad to see some of them go. On the other hand, a few shows have been around for a long time and will leave a hole in our hearts. Let’s see what ones bid adieu to us in 2022.
The Walking Dead debuted on Halloween in 2010 and lasted 11 seasons. It has spawned several spin-offs, such as Fear The Walking Dead and The Walking Dead: The World Beyond. There are at least two more spin-off shows coming out, The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon and The Walking Dead: Dead City. Plus, there are rumors of a spin-off for Rick and Michonne. There is a trilogy of movies in the works.
Westworld is a show about humans being able to live out their fantasies with the help of androids in the not-so-distant future. It lasted five seasons. Unfortunately, it is too expensive.
Netflix’s Warrior Nun lasted two seasons, but there were not enough viewers to justify the cost of making the show. Warrior Nun was about a woman given divine powers, and she becomes a fighting nun to kill demons while she is in the service of the church.
Trolls: TrollsTopia stars the stars of the Trolls movies. It lasted seven seasons. The colorful series will be missed.
This Is Us, an emotional family drama, lasted six seasons. The show followed the Pearson family. It closely followed the triplets of Kate, Kevin, and Randall and all their baggage.
Roswell, New Mexico, a different take on the books Roswell High books by Melinda Metz than the series Roswell (1999), lasted four seasons. Both series were about aliens living among humans here o Earth.
Peaky Blinders lasted six seasons, and there is talk of the story continuing in another form. However, it is unclear if it will be a spin-off show or a movie.
Ozark was four seasons long. It is about the Byrde family moving to the Missouri Ozarks and laundering money to keep out of trouble with the drug cartel.
Motherland: Fort Salem lasted three seasons. In this show, witches make up most of the military in this alternate history story of America.
Madagascar: A Little Wild lasted eight seasons and is a prequel to the DreamWorks Madagascar movies. Alex, Marty, Gloria, and Melman are still the stars, and it’s too cute.
Netflix’s Locke & Key lasted three seasons and was a fan favorite on this site. It’s a story about a family moving into an enchanted house and finding a key that unlocks magical powers.
The Last Kingdom lasted five seasons. It is a show I still need and want to watch. It is a show about Vikings and is an adaptation of the book The Saxon by Bernard Cornwell.
Killing Eve from the BBC lasted four seasons. It is a cat-and-mouse game between Eve and Villanelle. There is talk of a spin-off, but again, so far as I know, it is still just talk.
His Dark Materials, a show based on Phillip Pullman’s book The Golden Compass, lasted three seasons. It is basically a do-over of the movie.
Grace and Frankie lasted seven seasons. In this show, Jane Fonda’s and Lily Tomlin’s characters bond when they discover their husbands have had an affair with each other for decades.
The Expanse had six total seasons. Three of them are on Syfy, and three are on Amazon Prime. It is set in the future, where there is a war between Earth and the colonists on Mars and aliens that threaten the whole universe.
The Ellen DeGeneres Show, which lasted nineteen seasons, is ending. Ms. DeGeneres says there is no challenge to talk show hosting anymore.
Dynasty lasted five seasons. It is a reboot of Dynasty, a TV soap opera in the 80s that aired at night. I remember my former stepmother watching this when I was a kid.
The DCU’s Legends of Tomorrow lasted seven seasons. Unfortunately, the last episode ended on a cliffhanger because they thought they would have another season.
Claws lasted four seasons. It follows the life and crimes of five women that work at a nail salon in Florida.
Charmed lasted four seasons and is a reboot of the original Charmed with Alyssa Milano, Shannon Doherty, Rose McGown, and Holly Marie Combs. I am not sorry to see this go.
Black-ish lasted eight seasons. It’s about a black family living in a primarily white neighborhood and tackles all of the sensitive issues in this country. It even had a short-lived spin-off: Grown-ish.
Batwoman only lasted three season even with Javicia Leslie taking over after Ruby Rose left.
Arthur, the long-running kids’ show, lasted for an outstanding 25 seasons. The show debuted in 1996, and I think my kids watched it as well as Barney and, unfortunately, the Teletubbies.
A Discovery Of Witches lasted three seasons. I still need to read the books, which I think is a trilogy, not a series. If I read them, I will review them here. The story is about a vampire who falls in love with a powerful witch.
Disney’s Amphibia lasted three seasons. Anne and her friends’ adventures after being transported to the world of Amphibia.
I know it is a long list. So many shows ended in 2022. Of course, more will end this year, too, such as The Flash on the CW. Were any of these shows ones you watched? Did any of them surprise you? Let me know in the comments below. Until next time, have fun storming the castle!
