The Mindy Project - Season 6

These recaps are getting more and more bittersweet as we approach the end of The Mindy Project. Last week’s episode made it even sadder by giving Annette cancer as a way to bring Mindy & Danny back together (I’m guessing, why else would you hurt Annette?!)

While Mindy & Morgan are returning the popcorn maker the stole from the oncology department of the hospital, Mindy sees Annette sitting in the waiting room and going in to see a cancer specialist. Mindy does not rest until Annette tells her what’s up, which is that they found a malignant lump in her breast during her yearly mammogram (ladies your breast health is hella important please get regular check-ups) and she’s in treatment at this hospital so that Danny doesn’t find out.

In fact, Annette makes Mindy promise to not breathe a word of this to Danny. Mindy agrees, choosing to show up to Annette’s every appointment and be helpful and supportive instead of fighting her. At one of the appointments, when Annette keeps pushing her next one back for random events, Mindy gets a little bossy and Annette kicks her out. Then a few weeks later, she gets a call from Bitchy Nurse Chris (the greatest recurring character this season) who asks her to come down because the 2 old ladies are feuding and he’s not even enjoying it.

Mindy gets down there and sees that Annette is kicking Dot out and calling her a backstabber. So Dot leaves and Mindy learns that Annette was so mad because Dot suggested that she should make a will. Mindy’s like DUH dumdum of course you need a will, it’s about your end of life wishes and making things as easy as possible for yourself and your family. Finally Annette reconsiders the will and forgives Dot. She’s still adamant about Danny not finding out…Mindy warns that it would be so much worst if he finds out from someone else and Annette says it’s fine because no one else knows.

DUN DUN DUN. Cut to, Nurse Chris going down to Shulman & Associates to return Annette’s scarf to Mindy (too many of his exes live in Staten Island so he can’t go there). She’s not there so he leaves the scarf with Jeremy and he doesn’t confirm that Annette is seeking treatment there but his neck movements do. So then Jeremy decides to take the scarf to Danny, because he must be having a hard time with all this and wanting to talk.

In other news, Jody has the honour of going out with and sleeping with the amazing Dr. Hernandez who deserves much better. She tells him that this is just a fling, and that she’s joining Doctors Without Borders and going to Africa for 3 years. In a grand romantic gesture, a la season 1 Mindy, Jody decides to drop everything and join Mary on this adventure because he loves her.

Tamra and Morgan are also still very much in love. Tamra clings to tradition this episode because she wants some part of her love story with Morgan to be traditional. While she looks fabulous in the weird traditional Siberian garb, the religious rules are a little intense and the food includes lots of fish and jellies, making both of them sick. They decide that they don’t need this intense religion after all, and continue to be adorable despite Tamra being able to do better. (She knows she can, but Morgan adores and supports her, and isn’t that the what relationships are all about?)

This episode includes Jeremy and Morgan giving Jody dating advice about wearing women down which I hated and am choosing to ignore because this is the last season and I’m feeling nostalgic
