Hi! I’m Andie Boyungs, and I am the Chief Editor of The Game Of Nerds. I have been working for TGON since November of 2017. I absolutely love being here so let me tell you why…
Do you have a fandom (or more than one) that you absolutely love? Do you want to tell people about said fandom(s) so they fall in love with them too? Here at The Game of Nerds, we feel there is no such thing as an unhealthy obsession with a fandom! You can tell the world about it. I can tell you from personal experience, being able to show the world about Anita Blake, Harry Dresden, Letterkenny, and more have been so entertaining on a couple of levels.
As I have told the world about Scooby-Doo for instance, I have gotten to share my love and knowledge while falling in love with him all over again. Not only that, but I have learned things I have either not known, or have forgotten. I really enjoy researching and writing. My time at The Game of Nerds gives me that. I don’t just go from memory about the White Counsel’s Rules of Magic, I go look to make sure, or I double check into how many vampire courts there are. I found of in the Dresdenverse there is a Green Court of vampires. I thought there was only Red, Black, and White. If I can’t find what I’m looking for I have a great group of people to ask and see if they have any ideas.
As much as I like researching and learning, I like the exercises in writing. The Game of Nerds gives me the ability to flex my writing muscles in a few different aspects. I graduated from college and tried to enter the writing world. My writing experience prior to college was a few years old and after college, it was, of course, older and employers want current. However, there were aspects of writing online and just writing for an audience period that I didn’t know I didn’t know. Shannon Parola took a chance on me and I am grateful for it.
Shannon has taught me about WordPress, how to get readers engaged, how to best judge how long an article needs to be for different kinds of articles, and so much more. Being a part of TGON has been more than work, it has been educational and a huge help to my career. At The Game of Nerds we strive to help new and experience writers thrive and be creative. We want to help get you out there and build your portfolio. We love help students in High School and beyond get practical experience from people who are active in the industry. Do you need help with how to get ideas for writing? Do you need help polishing what you write? Maybe you need help learning to market yourself? We want to help. We aren’t all about writing. We want to give the artists and cosplayers all the same benefits that we give the writers. We have so many creators each bringing something new and interesting to the table.
I am not going to lie and tell you that this is a piece of cake. We work hard. We want quality work to put out, not only so that we look good, but so that you shine. Articles are turned in weekly. Turning them in makes sure that you are out on the internet and you can grab attention with your passion. Conventions and fall TV is a busy time. However, I have found my hard work to be fulfilling and rewarding and have heard others say similar things. One of the perks of writing for us is that you can do it in bed wearing Pjs and never set foot in an office.
Not to mention, Shannon is a great boss, fearless leader, and mama dragon. She is understanding , kind, and willing to share her experience, knowledge, and time. I have gone through a number of trying times and she always has my back. I have witness the same kindness and thoughtfulness given out to other creators on the staff. It’s the perfect balance of creative pushing and nurturing to make you feel great and successful. To find out more about The Game of Nerds in general you can check here. If you a creator, cosplayer, or writer, you can apply with us using the proper application. If you want to talk to Shannon or me, you can follow this link to message. Come join in the fun!
