The Bob’s Burgers cast returned to San Diego Comic Con (SDCC) on Saturday, July 25th. They announced a new special coming at the end of the year.
In attendance for the 10 a.m. panel was the show’s creator and executive producer, Loren Bouchard, along with some of the leading cast: H. Jon Benjamin (Bob Belcher), John Roberts (Linda Belcher), Kristen Schaal (Louise Belcher), Eugene Mirman (Gene Belcher) and Dan Mintz (Tina Belcher). Bernard Derriman, the supervising director, was also participating in the panel.
At the panel, the main announcement was a first look at a Christmas special coming sometime in December exclusively on Hulu called “On the Fort Day of Christmas”. The general plot will be the Belcher family stuck inside during a record-breaking snowstorm hitting their fictional town of New Jersey. So the kids will take it upon themselves to create a record-breaking snow fort to rival all snow forts!
While a release date hasn’t been announced yet, I have to say it would feel appropriate to release it on Friday, December 4th to accompany the wordplay of the special’s title. However, it’s not confirmed so don’t take this for gospel!
On the panel, there was some hilarious banter between the cast. An audience member had asked whether or not Bob and Linda would have a fourth Belcher child. Benjamin first said “I feel like we’re done, right?” He then said “I wanna stay married but I don’t wanna…” and looked at his co-star, Roberts.
Roberts then said “We have a little spark in the bedroom.” in his Linda voice. Benjamin said “No, no we don’t.” as the audience laughs. Later on, Mintz chimed in saying, “This would be Bob’s chance to raise someone that’s excited about working in the restaurant.” Benjamin conceded and said it would be good for the restaurant, mirroring Bob’s dedication to his business.
In an interview, the cast was asked how the Belcher family would say or act like if they had to host a panel at SDCC. Roberts believes Linda would talk about togetherness, provide wine, and do a sing-along. Benjamin also thinks Bob would sing to copy Linda.
Schaal thinks Louise would talk about action shows she enjoys because she wants to be a director. Mintz believes the audience would ask Tina why Gene and Louise don’t listen to their eldest sibling when she’s always right. Finally, Mirman said Gene would talk about songs he wants to sing and the music he wants to create. Schaal interjects to say he would also want to experience all the different food in the San Diego area.
One more funny moment during their panel was when Mintz was asked if Jimmy Jr. deserves Tina, her longtime crush. He begins by saying, “I mean, he’s been given like 100 chances, it would’ve happened by now if it was going to happen.” After talking some more about this topic, Benjamin says, “Dan.. you’re an idiot.” and has a hilarious crash out moment on him talking too long and that it was a bad faith argument. He leans into the joke about Tina’s family not listening to her by yelling, “You’re wrong!” It’s truly a highlight of the panel, but it’s always a delight to see the cast banter with each other.
While the show is in between seasons right now, with season 16th having concluded back in May, fans have the special to look forward to for December. Season 17th will premiere sometime in mid January 2027 on Fox. It will also stream on Hulu and Hulu on Disney+.
It’ll drop with weekly episodes, consisting of 15 episodes total. It will not contain a long mid season break like the seasons typically do. The show is also already renewed for seasons 18 and 19, with new Bob’s Burgers content up to 2028-2029.
