Just a few days after “The Vampire Lestat” finale rocked audiences, the cast and creators took to the biggest room at SDCC 2026 to discuss it all. Last year’s “Interview with the Vampire” panel took place in Ballroom 20, the second largest room at the con, so fans were thrilled to see the show bumped up to Hall H this time around. Seats filled with beautifully unwell fans and press, eager to hear what the stars had to say. The panel featured actors Jacob Anderson, Assad Zaman, Eric Bogosian, and Sheila Atim. Executive producer and writer Hannah Moscovitch and executive producer Mark Johnson joined the cast. The panel was originally set to include showrunner Rolin Jones, however he was, unfortunately, not in attendance. This season’s star, Sam Reid, was also not able to attend due to his performance schedule in Sydney Theatre Company’s “Doubt: A Parable.”

The panel ran the gamut from concert clips to favorite props and devil’s minion moments. But there was one question at the back of everyone’s mind from the beginning: Would we get a season four? Luckily, the answer is a resounding yes. The panel closed with an electrifying look into the now-confirmed season four, titled “Queen of the Damned.” Read on to find out what’s next for our favorite vamps.

Opening With Concert Highlights

In lieu of the infamous Akasha-awakening concert fans are still waiting to see, SDCC 2026 blessed panel attendees with clips from an equally beautiful performance. For those unaware, The Vampire Lestat himself, aka Sam Reid, held a one-night-only premiere turned concert on June 2, 2026. Those who were able to make it to the Beacon Theatre that night witnessed something truly special. Reid took the stage in full character, performing six songs from the show. Con-goers got a taste of that feeling as they took in a compilation from the concert, while the cast watched from backstage.

For those who still haven’t borne witness to this spectacular performance, not to worry. As moderator Jacqueline Coley reminded fans, the full concert is coming to AMC+ on August 23, 2026. Fans will finally be able to stream the show from the comfort of their own bedrooms. The experience will be made all the more immersive, knowing the context for the songs now that the season has ended.

Looking Back on “The Vampire Lestat”

SDCC 2026 was a little different for “The Vampire Lestat” cast and creators. Whereas past panels occurred before their respective seasons aired, this year’s panel was still riding the excitement of season three’s conclusion. That meant the panelists got to dig into some of their favorite moments of the season without holding back. Mark Johnson and Hannah Moscovitch spoke to the big swing the show took with the penultimate episode, in particular.

Moscovitch reasserted that Louis and Lestat’s dynamic is at the very core of the show. What happened to them was a necessary extension of that. Lestat, in particular, needed to recognize Louis’s love for him to move forward in many ways. These comments are reassuring, especially as we move into yet another new era for the show. If fans were worried, it’s clear the creators know these two characters are a mainstay no matter where we go next.

Assad Zaman also spoke to aspects of his character that give us a glimpse of what may be to come in future seasons. He noted that he plays Armand with a sort of blankness in scenes when no one is perceiving the character. Unlike the childishness that Anne Rice used to describe Armand in her text, Zaman views it as someone performing a part. This viewpoint on the character gives fans something to chew on as the wait for next season begins. How much of Armand will we see next season, and how much will be performance versus vulnerability?

Toward the panel’s end, executive producer Mark Johnson prepped the audience for a special season three montage. But as the lights dimmed and the screen lit up, fans realized they were in for a much bigger surprise. Rather than a “The Vampire Lestat” compilation, Akasha’s voice resonated through the hall.

Season Four Confirmed

The SDCC 2026 panel officially confirmed that “Interview with the Vampire” has been renewed for a fourth season. Just like season three, this next installment is getting its own rebrand. The teaser clip and a foreboding red-hued poster advertise season four as “The Queen of the Damned” with the tagline “she is the answer.” On the one hand, this was an expected change after Akasha made her stunning entrance in season three, episode five. On the other hand, since “Interview with the Vampire” had two seasons under the same name, some anticipated a part two for “The Vampire Lestat.”

We may still be getting a part two of Lestat’s story. After all, “Queen of the Damned,” the novel, starts and ends with Lestat’s narration, and he remains a central character throughout the entire Vampire Chronicles. The book also shares stories of other pivotal characters viewers have yet to meet, and includes the much-anticipated devil’s minion chapter. Season three ended without showing Lestat’s seminal concert, which could be the opener of the next season, unleashing Akasha’s voice into the narrative. Rolin Jones himself has said that season three was designed as a part one of two, with much being left unsaid to be explored later. We can assume we’re not done with Lestat, or the other characters for that matter.

As for the teaser, Akasha addresses the audience directly, women specifically. She lays out a call to action, part motivation and affirmation, part tyrannical musings. Her message is simple: “Kill them all.” Book readers will know more about the specifics of Akasha’s rage, but the teaser paints the picture. Her words resound over clips of women gathering in the streets, protests and riots. The teaser ends with the pivotal line in her season three introduction: “I am the answer.” We’ve spent three seasons spent following vampires searching for answers. Now, the one to rule them all promises a resolution. The exact nature of that resolution just may not be what they expected.

Moving Forward With a Shift in Leadership

Though not announced during the panel, one of the biggest pieces of news to come out is that season four is bringing a change in showrunners. Rolin Jones has captained the previous three seasons as showrunner. Jones is stepping down, though he is still continuing as an executive producer for the show. Hannah Moscovitch will be taking his place as showrunner for season four. It’s an interesting choice going into the new season. Will the change in leadership have a significant impact on the direction of the show? Moscovitch has been in the writer’s room since season one and was an executive producer on season three, so she is no stranger to the show or the characters.

This should provide some level of reassurance for anyone startled by the sudden change. Though Jones will be missed as showrunner, hopefully he will continue to be deeply involved as an executive producer, as his passion for the story is clear. On another note, having a female showrunner at the helm of an Akasha-centered season does feel right in many ways. All that’s left now is to wait once again as the show prepares to step into its next iteration. Let’s just hope the wait isn’t too long.
