Coyote vs ACME is coming!
Guys, I think I am about to cry. We’re actually getting the Coyote vs ACME film next month, and the final trailer we got left me thanking the universe for living this long.
If you’ve been following my posts here on The Game of Nerds for the last few years, you’ll know I’ve been on a crusade against Warner Bros. At first, it was just at how they’ve been treating their animated properties as a whole. But when they unfairly shelved Coyote vs ACME, a film about Wile E. Coyote seeking justice for ACME’s awful products, I lost it. I started reporting all about the movie that had become life imitating art, and how so many people were mad at Warner Bros. I know I couldn’t do much, but I just couldn’t let Warner Bros. get away with this. Thankfully, our efforts paid off. A little more than a month from now, Coyote vs ACME will hit theaters, and I hope that every theater is packed just to spite Warner Bros. And judging by the final trailer, it’s going to be an absolute riot.
Justice for the Coyote
The trailer opens up with a more detailed look at Wile E’s latest failed attempt at catching the Roadrunner: using a magnet of some kind. He then goes back to his lair, dejected and fed up with a lifetime of failures. That’s when he sees the fateful commercial from Kevin Avery proclaiming the evils of the ACME Corporation, and it is perfection. The joke is that Kevin is just generalizing with his examples, but they’re all things that have happened to Wile E. And that is enough to make him hop on a handcar and seek out justice. And that is where the real fun begins.
Enter Buddy Crane, AKA JOHN CENA, AKA the no-nonsense lawyer representing the ACME Corporation. He’s the serious character in a world of lunacy; that’s the joke. Ironically, he doesn’t find a lot of things funny. For example, when ACME tries to settle with Wile E. for damages, the Coyote proceeds to tear the check up, pour gasoline, and set it on fire in front of them. That is hilarious! The fact that Buddy doesn’t find that funny puts him on the same level as Judge Doom in terms of hating toons, if you ask me!
Everybody Loves a David
All joking aside, the trailer seems to confirm something: much of that leaked synopsis I got my hands on years ago seems accurate. That’s not a bad thing, if you ask me. As I’ve said several times already, Coyote vs ACME may have started as a simple movie, but it’s become an example of life imitating art. For thousands of years, people have liked stories about an underdog David going up against a Goliath. Considering all the abuse and punishment Wile E. has had to put up with over the decades, he is, very much, the David in this story. And everyone loves a David.
The thing that I think I liked most about the trailer, though, was Avery’s speech about Wile E. Coyote. Hearing him call Wile E. one of the hardest-working people he’s ever met perfectly sums up his character. More importantly, it sums up why he’s my favorite out of all the Looney Tunes.
Wile E. Coyote Will Return!
As a final joke, the trailer ends with a countdown to the film’s release, mimicking the famous countdown to Avengers: Doomsday that Marvel has had going on all throughout this year. That brought a smile to my face, and I intend to buy my tickets next paycheck.
It’s so surreal to think that we are on the verge of getting this movie, you know. When all this over, I think that someone should write a book or a novella about the story of getting this film made. One last way to spite Warner Bros for their transgressions. Maybe I’ll find the time to do it!
