Fear the Walking Dead: Follow Me

How quickly things can flip flop in a series, when I had very little or no expectations last season I was pleasantly surprised and very excited for each week’s episode. Sadly I did not have anywhere close to that reaction as AMC dropped the first two episodes together, with this episode a week later than usual. I wanted to enjoy this episode, but over the span of these two episodes something became very clear to me. I enjoy Fear the Walking Dead a great deal, when it involves a lot of characters, they play off each other quite well and help strengthen the show. Sadly, outside of Morgan, I don’t feel like any characters can carry an episode by themself, I think John Dorie could have in the past, and I want to believe Alicia but she is not there yet for me. Not compared to the flagship show where they still have a handful that can do it, Daryl, Carol, Maggie, Negan, and for me, depending on the setup I think Ezekiel could also fulfill that for me.

With that said, this is going to be fairly short because, in all honesty this hours episode was full of lots of filler. Alicia is asleep in a bed in a room, and it’s very very loud inside. She follows the music to see what’s causing it, and notices the front door is open and a walker has gotten inside, the walker is making it’s way to his prey when Alicia, after unable to get the man’s attention, breaks part of the stereo equipment that gets his attention. He kills the walker as Alicia is to woozy to fight. The two catch up, he tells her he can’t hear, that he found her in a barn during a food run. She doesn’t remember being in a barn, she says some girl helped her, explains the hand and why she has a fever.

He wants her to get him some stereo equipment to replace what is lost, he can’t hear music but he can feel the vibrations, while Alicia wants to get back to where she was going, but not before Arno and his thugs come to look for Alicia. She asks to be hidden, which she hides in the piano. Arno gets inside the house and realizes that something is wrong with the piano but the sound of some dead keys but doesn’t make a big deal about it.

Alicia promised to go with him to get some more stereo equipment, at a school, which seemed to be an easy run until Arno and his thugs returned yet again. Alicia goes out to investigate and then a few minutes later the deaf man comes out with a gun and kills some of the raiders while hurting Arno who flees. The pair hide out in a van and they share stories about what they keep hearing and trying to drown out, for him it’s the bomb and passing of his wife, Alicia tells him about the walker that bit her and the dream she has of following this walker to Padre. The man decides to help Alicia get back to her people and to try to eliminate Arno so they hatch a plan to lure Arno and the remaining people to his house to kill them.

This obviously doesn’t work according to plan, Arno is able to figure out it’s a trap and get the jump on the deaf man and shoots him. He and Alicia lock themselves in a room and he decides he is going to sacrifice himself so she can escape. He does just that by playing the bagpipes so incredibly loud while Alicia is able to escape. She is later found back with Morgan in the sub. He says she passed out by the entrance, while Alicia swears a girl got her to the sub. She has a different dream where the walker isn’t the Senator, yet a version of her, and the people following aren’t the ones that are already dead, but all of her remaining friends. She decides that Padre doesn’t exist, but a lot of people believe it does and are looking for it. So she wants to go back to the bunker to get some equipment to call out to survivors and basically all bring them together to create a version of Padre, and ultimately take down Strand’s tower.

Speaking of destruction we see Arno and one other man, Suge or perhaps it was Sage, with the cage coming up upon a huge huge huge crater with hundreds if not thousands of walkers stuck inside. Not just any walkers, but obvious radioactive kind. After seeing all these walkers Arno says they will just take the tower themselves, likely with these disgusting walkers of course.
