Whether you are a kid or a kid at heart, you gotta love Scooby-Doo. I know he is my favorite cartoon character of all time, but I digress. Scooby, whether it is Halloween or not always deals with frights and delights, so appropriate for this season.

If you have no idea who Scooby-Doo is, you must have been living under a rock. Just in case though, Scooby-Doo (his real name is Scoobert Doo) is a talking dog who helps solve mysteries. He is a big ol’ chicken. His best friend in the whole world and owner is Shaggy (Norville Rogers). Both are a part of Mystery Inc. The other members are Fred, Daphane, and Velma. Velma is the brains, Daphane is the beauty, and Fred is the trap guy. Freddy’s traps are out of this world. Daphane is called Danger Prone Daphane. Velma loses her glasses a lot and is blind without them. As I said, Scooby is a chicken. Shaggy is too though he and Scooby eat everything. They are often coerced into doing dangerous stuff for Scooby Snacks.

I have been watching Scooby and the gang for years. My kids love Scooby too. I have seen the original show and up. I haven’t seen the newest one though. I will have to check it out. I haven’t liked the last few series. They have messed with the characters too much. On that note, I have compiled a list of specifically Halloween-themed specials of Mystery Inc’s gang for you. You really have to check these out.

The first is Halloween Hassle at Dracula’s Castle (1984). Scrappy, who is in this is Scooby’s nephew. Scooby, Shaggy, and Scrappy are driving around on Halloween and stop at a costume shop. The owners are dressed as Dracula and Igor which scares Scooby and Shaggy. When they run, Freddy and Velma scare them at the door. Dracula is wickedly curious about them and announces Scooby as the millionth customer and gives him and the gang invites to his Halloween party. The “monsters” this time are real and need the gang’s help to stop the ghost of Dr. Van Helsing.

The Headless Horseman of Halloween (1976)~ Scooby and the gang are invited to a Halloween party by Mrs. Crane at Crane Manor. In this one, Scooby’s cousin, Scooby-Dum, is with them. While outside, Scooby, Shaggy, and Scooby-Dum see the Headless Horseman and run inside to get away and warn everyone. Beth, Mrs. Crane’s niece reveals she is a descendant of Ichabod Crane and thinks he is back to haunt them. Fear not! Mystery Inc. is on the case!

Scooby-Doo and the Ghoul School (1988)~ Scooby, Shaggy, and Scrappy are hired at Miss Grimwood’s Finishing School for Girls as gym teachers. An idea I think is a hoot. Once there they find out it is a ghoul girl school. Students like Sibella, Dracula’s daughter, Elsa, Frankenstein’s Monster’s daughter, and others were going there. This one is more fun than a mystery. It’s great though and I love it.

To Switch a Witch (1978)~ Scooby and the gang go to see a friend, Arlene Wilcox in Salem, Mass. When they get there they are warned off because someone saw a witch, Arlene’s ancestor, rise from the grave. Ignoring the warning, they go to their friend and offer to help.

Scooby-Doo/Courage the Cowardly Dog Scare-a-Thon (2000)~ This was a special promotion that ran for three nights in October of 2000. It was pitting Scooby-Doo and Courage the Cowardly Dog against each other for the scarediest dog title. Just in case you didn’t know, there is now a movie, just recently released, with Scooby and Courage. It’s called Straight Outta Nowhere: Scooby-Doo Meets Courage The Cowardly Dog.

As you can see, I really love the classic ones. They have a very special place in my heart because it was early Scooby-Doo that stole my heart. I used to watch it at my grandparent’s house. Try them out, I think you’ll like them. Do you have a Scooby special you want me to watch and review on? Let me know in the comments below. Until next week…
