According to my rapid Googling, “shayna punim” means pretty face. You’re welcome, dear reader.
Not only are Josh & Rebecca still together; they go to her cousin’s bar mitzvah with her MOM! Also Whitefeather & Associates Plimpton, Plimpton & Plimpoton is in shambles, Darryl wants candy, Nathaniel has real daddy issues. Finally, Rebecca makes a breakthrough at the very end that lasts 2.4 seconds.
Special appearance by Rabbi Patti Lupone!!!
Spoilers under the cut, duh
Josh & Becks are in love so they’ll never have problems again…aka they are delusional and need to listen more to queen Heather. We woul also accept queen Valencia at this point, who has a super mature sit-down with Rebecca and tries to make her understand that Josh Chan isn’t magic.
Josh shares his insecurities about the relationship with Father Brah, who advises him to not hang his every hope on Rebecca and to focus on himself, but, as always, Josh REFUSES TO LISTEN TO WISER PEOPLE.
Anyway, after their little 80′s disco song, they head to Scarsdale. Rebecca’s mom starts out a little racist and super rude to Becks, but by the end of the first day, Josh is her favourite person OF ALL TIME!
Rebecca expects Josh to hate her family and be just as miserable as she is during the whole trip. She wanted someone to comiserate with her and laugh at the sad New York Jewish people while longing for the sunny California folks. Instead, Josh Chan bonds with basically everyone and has a great time at the Bar Mitzvah. He even bonds with Audra Levine’s husband (small dick, rotten lay) over balloon guitars and California geography. *side-eye*
This is an unexpected development and it makes Rebecca sulk even harder. Her Rabbi – PATTI FUCKING LUPONE – tries to give her advice about loving herself to feel fulfilled instead of relying on an outside force. This sort of sticks! Becks is starting to see that being with Josh Chan isn’t solving ANY of her problems, so she has to start looking elswhere for solutions.
Before we talk about the BOMBSHELL that happens in the last few seconds of the episode, let’s discuss the B plot.
Nathaniel Plimpton, the new boss, is making people work on weekends and TAKING ALL THEIR CANDY!!!! He’s also resurrected Rebecca’s treadmill desk and is constantly running on it, as if it will take him closer to his fathers approval. (eh guys, my joke, guys.)
Darryl keeps trying (bless his heart) to get Nathaniel to loosen up a bit. He keeps failing until Papa Plimpton doesn’t give Nathaniel the magical important client, causing him to consume great amounts of carbs and sugar, run too fast on his treadmill, and faceplant super hard. Darryl takes him to the ER and they have a lovely little “Father”-son moment.
When she gets back from Scarsdale, Rebecca goes to see Dr. Akopian to share her breakthrough. Akopian is so impressed and shocked that Rebecca is finally starting to become self-aware and understand her situation that she cancels her next 5 appointments and gets ready to settle in. But, because we can’t have nice things, Josh bursts in and PROPOSES to Rebecca with the Garfinkle ring.
I, like Dr. Akopian, and probably all of you, was screaming super loudly at my TV! *angry emoji*
UGH! The breakthrough was happening! Josh ruins everythiiiiiiiiing!
- We’ll Never Have Problems Again – Josh & Rebecca are super delusional about “love” and refuse to listen to Heather
- Remember That We Suffered – being happy is selfish, you have no idea what pain is, the Holocaust was a really big deal, remember that we SUFFERED!
Tune in tonight (9/8c – The CW) to see how far this wedding storyline will go and find out what kind of song Scott Michael Foster will be singing for us!!
