It’s been over 10 years since Lemony Snicket’s fantastic book series was adapted into a film…and didn’t exactly please all the book fans. It was a decent film–and Jim Carrey’s mostly-improvised acting as Count Olaf was hilarious–but it didn’t quite live up to the expectations.

Then last year, Netflix announced their plans to adapt the books into a TV series, with Daniel Handler (Mr. Snicket himself) serving as executive producer. Needless to say, we’re a little bit excited!

Here’s what we know so far about this adaptation…

1. Filming is expected to begin this March, so it hopefully won’t be too long before we see some photos from the set!

2. Neil Patrick Harris has been cast as Count Olaf, and he already seems to be in character. Soon after this casting announcement, he tweeted:  “ I’m excitedish to portray Count Olaf – its spending all day with those three horrible child actors that will be a challenge. #sneer #shudder “

3. Malina Weissman and Louis Hynes have been cast as Violet and Klaus Baudelaire, respectively. Some of you might recognize Malina from Supergirl, as young Kara, one of her most recent roles. Louis, on the other hand, has not been in too many productions (yet)–but playing our favorite book-savvy Baudelaire might very well change that!

Sunny Baudelaire has not been cast yet.

So far, that’s all the news released so far about this show’s development. We’ll keep you up to date as we find out more–so don’t get standoffish now!
