If you missed my last Family Guy article, you can find it here.
Here we are with Season 22. I would say that I am surprised Family Guy has lasted so long but look at The Simpsons. I am interested in what happens with Meg in Fertilized Meg. Is she going to fall in love with one of the guys? I mean, it is her usual MO. You know, that whole family is a red flag but I do love watching to see what happens next. What stupidity is Peter going to be up to this week? Let’s see what we see for this week.
Episode 1: Fertilized Meg
Stewie is on an outing to the bowling alley and the whole family aside from Lois is there but separately. Peter is playing on a lane with Cleveland, Joe, and Quagmire and Chris is being a weirdo. When the bowling alley closes, Meg helps Jeffery clean up they decide that Meg will have a baby for him and Larry. Of course, the family isn’t particularly happy about it.
Meg gets through the pregnancy and has the baby, Liza Judy Barbara, what a mouthful. Jeffery and Larry don’t take Liza right away which I thought was odd. Lois thought it was because they abandoned her but it turns out that Meg was putting them off. She wanted to keep the baby.
The episode really didn’t have a whole lot happening in it and it was pretty boring. A terrible opening for Season 22.
Episode 2: Supermarket Pete
Apparently, the brewery Peter works at is going to be closed for the next two months. That leaves Peter a lot of time to come up with trouble. Unfortunately for Peter, Lois finds out he isn’t getting paid during it and makes Peter go get a job. Unfortunately for Lois, it’s at her super market. Lois gets tired of seeing Peter at the grocery store and tries to kick him out but gets kicked out of the store instead. In retaliating, Lois gets a job at the clam. This should be good.
The guys hang out at the Clam like they usually do and Joe’s feelings get hurt because the rest of them don’t like his stories. When Joe see Brian at the bar they get to talking and decide to go in on writing about Joe’s cases together. I can’t wait to see this train wreck. When the case doesn’t give the answers Brian seeks, he and Joe go looking for them. How is Joe a cop?
Episode 3: A ‘Stache from the Past
When a trip to the flea market doesn’t go the way Peter wants, he gets a reverse mortgage on the house. He listened to Tom Selleck on a TV infomercial and got the idea. Lois is not happy and tells Peter they can lose the house. While at the bar telling the guys about it, Mayor West overhears them and tells them he knew Tom years ago. When Peter asks him for help tracking Tom down he says no but reconsiders by morning.
After buying an antique teapot from Jeffrey, Stewie gets the idea to open a booth at the flea market and sell antiques himself. Of course, Brian follows his lead. A boy and his dog at its finest. Jeffrey is not thrilled at this but he is the calmest guy about it. It doesn’t change his voice at all but a challenge is thrown down between him and Stewie.
This is one that I just shook my head at a good chunk of the time, and those episodes are my favorite ones.
Episode 4: Old World Harm
Lois wants to go on vacation which for some weird reason makes Peter think a jetpack for himself is a good idea. His first attempt is a monumental failure that cost the whole vacation fund. Joe offers his mom’s condo in Florida. It turns out to be a retirement village and Lois is less than thrilled at least until she and Peter become a hit in said village.
Stewie reads an article in a magazine from 2012 and finds out that Whitney Huston died from drowning in a bathtub. Stewie being Stewie and a baby, instantly assumes baths all baths are deadly and vows only to shower. Brian is the opposite, he is terrified of showers. This is a problem because Peter and Lois left Brian and the kids at home while they went to Florida.
This episode sent my husband to the garage to talk to his tools. At least he told me he was going to talk to them.
Episode 5: Baby, It’s Cold Outside
It’s Lois and Peter’s anniversary and do you think Peter remembered? If you guess no you’d be right. Seamus is at the Clam and offers Peter his boat to take Lois out on. While out on the water and skinny dipping, they thought they saw a shark and Peter left her to die. Lois doesn’t yell, she is calm when she tells Peter she is disappointed. She also tells him that she doesn’t think she’ll ever see him the same way again when he presents her with flowers he swiped from a memorial.
Stewie got a mini fridge from the curb and brought it to his room. Why does a baby need a mini fridge? My sixteen-year-old doesn’t even have one. Stewie takes on a college kid persona. I guess it is the least egotistical of his personas that he has had. It doesn’t well when Brian tries to stop the madness.
This family is so messed up.
I was completely disappointed with episode one but they got better with each one from there. As I went through the episodes I was shaking my head more and more. That is my mark for a good episode. If I shake my head for at least half the episode, I am pretty happy. I think my favorite of these five is Old World Harm. I have found, though, that my limit is five episodes. After that, I can feel my brain melt and leak out of my ears. I do have to say that Peter was the dumbest in Baby, It’s Cold Outside.
