Supernatural’s Five Best Episodes Per Season Countdown: Season Ten

Okay, so it’s more of a count up, but details, details. Since the announcement was made that Supernatural’s 15th season will be its last, I find myself feeling nostalgic. So, for the next several weeks I’ll be posting and writing about the five (in my opinion) best episodes of each season. This is by no means a definitive list, nor is it in any particular order, but I will fight anyone who tries to argue that these are not the best of a very long, very beautifully painful show.

After my own little hiatus, I’m back and here are my favorite episodes of Season 10:

1.) Fan Fiction

Part homage, part teasing the fandom, the 200th episode of Supernatural was missing only one thing in my opinion: The Angel. It was funny, a little spooky, and a musical which, is only wrong in that Jensen and Jared didn’t sing.

 2.)Executioner’s song

Is this episode on this list just to have a gif of Tim O and all his hair glory and smirkiness? No, but honestly it’s reason enough. Cain is one of the best characters on the show and his last episode is haunting and poignant. His taunting (or warning) Dean about the depths of the Darkness he will fall into is just brilliantly written and acted.

Plus: AGAIN. THE HAIR.

3.) There’s No Place Like Home

Charlie is back! And split in two! And foreshadows the beginning of Dean’s loss of control over The Mark… what else can we ask for in an episode?

4.) The Prisoner

This may be controversial, but hear me out: As much as I hated what led to (in my opinion) Dean’s final demise, watching the complete loss of control, the absence of empathy and sheer coldness of Dean’s execution of the Styne family was just flat-out good storytelling. And seeing this last moment of regaining even a little control so that he doesn’t kill his best friend is the shred of hope we (and everyone in the show) need to believe Dean is still redeemable.

5.) Angel Heart

Say what you want about Claire Novak, the girl has been through some shit and deserves some goddamn peace. Abandonment by both parents, the loss of her father, possession by an angel… She has reason for her shit attitude. Angel Heart wraps up the Novak story line by reuniting Amelia and Jimmy, and allowing Claire the chance to move on with her life in a healthier way by going to Jody.

Alright. This was a little tougher to come up with than previous seasons, so I’m curious as to what you think. I know a couple of my picks are a bit controversial, so let me know YOUR top five season ten episodes!
