We start this episode with a guy who is chased by other guys dressed in top hats. He tries to run away from them but is cornered and beat up.
Alfred is working in the club where Thomas offers him a job again. Alfred refuses again because Esme almost died the last time and he is done with serving his county. The next day he is visiting a pub with Dave and he mentions that he is looking for new customers. They witness the arrival of a guy called Jason in the pub who starts to harras the pub owner’s daughter. Dave sort of convinces Alfred to take on the job and scare Jason away, even if he is family to the biggest crime family in the East End.
Esme has the premiere of her play and Alfred sits in the audience to encourage her. After the play, Alfred is addressed by the police inspector. The inspector likes to know if Lord Harwood ever mentioned more people involved in the Raven Society, he didn’t, while Alfred likes to know from him what happened to Bet Sykes, she is currently in the Tower of London waiting for her execution. The inspector also mentions that Alfred should watch out for people approaching him with nice offers and that he should contact him if they do. Alfred suspects that he might be talking about Thomas, but doesn’t mention this.
Alfred goes back to the pub the next day and starts to taunt and challenge Jason. He even throws beer in his face before running off. Alfred gets cornered in a street, but Bazza and Dave are waiting for him and the three of them beat up Jason and his five helpers. Jason tries to defend himself by telling how big his uncle John Ripper is in the East End, but they don’t care and knock him unconscious. Alfred pays a visit to this Mr Ripper and tries to offer him his services and asks if he can also extend his services to the East End. Meanwhile, Bazza and Dave are trying to break Jason. They make him crazy by thinking they will torture him and in the end, he is willing to tell them all about his uncle and his business. Unbeknownst to him, he is brought to his uncle’s place and his uncle hears everything, making him furious that his nephew is so easily convinced to give him up. John Ripper tells Jason to leave London and to never come back. He’d normally kill someone over this, but he knows he would break his sister’s heart if he would.
Somewhere in the Tower of London, Lord Harwood is tortured to give up the name of the leader of the Raven Society. He doesn’t budge and tells that he is the leader, but the prime minister finds that hard to believe. Also, Bet Sykes is stuck in the Tower waiting for her execution. She starts to flirt and befriend one of her guards. Eventually, she gets him so far, with a litter persuasion and blackmailing, that he would send some letters for her. One of the letters goes to her sister, Peggy and the other goes to Esme. The latter gets so scared of the letter that she starts to get paranoid until Alfred comes home to comfort her. They go to the pub where Alfred is getting paid for scaring Jason away from the pub owner’s daughter. From that money, he buys a ring and proposes to Esme and she agrees!
Then Bet is prepared for her execution, live on tv with a bunch of other criminals, but she is the only one that gets hanged anonymous. Because of this, Peggy can switch Bet with one of the female guards and the two of them escape in the executioner’s van.
