At the GCPD we discover that Alfred is still missing. Apparently, his sudden disappearance didn’t go unnoticed for too long. Gordon has all his available men looking for him and Bruce himself is also doing double shifts to find him. Unfortunately, the search parties come up empty but they do find the bodies of the four dead men. Gordon orders Bruce to go home and catch some sleep, but of course, he doesn’t listen and heads into one of the dark zones of Gotham. In an alley, he finds a bunch of newspapers that have his parents deaths on the front page and then he sees a couple that looks very similar to his parents walking along the street. He follows them into a subway station and ends up in the place where Jeremiah was building the tunnel. Without even giving it a second thought, Bruce walks into the tunnel. We thought that the tunnel would lead to the mainland, but Jeremiah had other plans and Bruce ends up in Wayne Manor. There he finds Alfred who acts like the two people are indeed his parents and has forgotten everything about the last couple of years.

Then Jeremiah appears. He has planted bombs all over the house, but Alfred thinks that they are Italian Merengue Cakes. Jeremiah wants Bruce to relive the night his parents were murdered because Jeremiah wasn’t a part of it. Jeremiah wants to get every detail right about Bruce his childhood, including his favourite grilled cheese. He wants to be ‘connected’ with Bruce and if this can’t be like friends than like enemies. After he has eaten the grilled cheese, Jeremiah takes the fake Waynes and triggers the bombs. In order to get Alfred out of there on time, Bruce lies to him about a gas leak and they manage to escape just in time. The explosion causes Alfred to lose the hypnosis and he orders Bruce to go after Jeremiah.

In the Narrows, Lee and Gordon are looking for clues on who the four dead men are. Lee suspects that they were part of a gang and finds some markings on walls that could lead them to the gang. After following the signs they end up at a factory called Ace Chemicals. Although most of the workers abandoned the factory after the bridges blew, there is smoke coming out of the factory indicating that someone restarted the production. When they enter the factory, they notice that all the factory workers are hypnotized. They soon find out that this is the work of Jarvis Tetch. Who orders the factory workers to attack Gordon and Lee, but it is Ecco who knocks down Gordon. When he wakes up again he and Lee are tied up to a pole. At first, Ecco and Tetch don’t really know what to do with the two, but a quick call to Jeremiah gives them an idea for Tetch to hypnotize them.

Somewhere else in Gotham, Penguin is testing out different ways to escape the prison that Gotham has become. He has a guinea pig in a boat on the river but he is quickly blown up by one of the many sea mines located in the river. This eliminates the river as a plan to escape, but Selina might have another option. She still remembers the tunnel that Jeremiah was digging and with her assuming that he is dead this might be the next best solution. When they arrive at the tunnel they come across Alfred who is a bit banged up from the explosion. He updates Selina on what happened in Wayne Manor and advises her that Bruce might need her help. Bruce himself has arrived at the theatre where he and his parents were before the shooting.

The fake Waynes are there too just as the movie begins. The movie is The Mask of Zorro, the movie 10-year old Bruce watched with his parents, but instead of the original, it is a remake with Jeremiah in the lead. We see him carving Z’s in men their chests. There the movie ends, because this is exactly the moment in the movie where Bruce begged his parents to leave because it was too scary for him. The fake Waynes leave the theatre to walk through the famous alleyway. There Bruce discovers that the fake Waynes aren’t random people anymore but that their place is taken over by the hypnotized Lee and Gordon. They are hypnotized so that they will wake up as soon as the pearls hid the ground so that they will realize what happened when it is already too late. Jeremiah prepares to shoot them but is stopped by Selina who also drops the pearls, waking up Lee and Gordon.

Ecco detonates fireworks with poison in them and both her and Jeremiah escape. Gordon takes the truck with the fireworks and manages to drive the truck and the fireworks into the river before they detonate. Unfortunately, this causes the river to be toxic and decreases the chances that the mainland actually delivers the long-promised help. Bruce, on the other hand, follows Jeremiah into Ace Chemicals. They start to fight above the tanks with a toxin. Bruce manages to avoid one of Jeremiah’s punches but the latter loses his balance and falls into the toxin basin. Later they retrieve his body and he is still alive. But without any brain activity, he is no longer a threat.
