Season four episode one is starting strong, with an initial recap followed by a delightfully nostalgic introduction to a new member of the Magicians cast, whilst reliving the glorious moments of Quentin and Julia’s befuddled and curious introduction to the world of magic and Brakebills college. Whilst enjoying an adorable attempted impersonation of our ever-the-eloquent Eliot by the adorkably unequipped Todd..
Only, an even more intriguing turn in the tale… when Dean Fogg looks through his three-colored glass, we see a blurry image of Julia, where the blonde newbie was a minute ago. The first of the episode’s introductions to our old favorites with their glamour’s put over them.
Things become interesting as we see the new identities of the group of hero’s, the ones who saved magic and have been repaid by wiping their memories and throwing them into random lives that have very little in common with their real selves. But slowly, Kady starts to come to some questionable conclusions, and interestingly, every single time she comes close, things start getting fucked up.. and literally blow up at times.
Alice eventually appears to succumb to her depression by slitting her wrists, although interestingly it seems as though this was part of an elaborate plan.
Worryingly Quentin and the madman from the final few episodes of the previous season, the one who inhabited Blackspire… who’s inside Eliot’s body are still roaming around the city, he’s entirely aware of the glamour that Quentin and all his friends have been put under, and can see through it quite easily, we’re dealing with an entertainingly sociopathic lunatic, which I think we can safely say is going to make for some damn entertaining television.
Aaaand of course our favorite bad girl Marina makes an appearance, introducing herself to our humdrum group of confused identities and puzzlement.. Only, as we’ve seen all episode when people attempt to uncover the glamour that’s been put on the individuals, it gets explosive.
