Welcome one and welcome all to yet another edition of Overwatch Tips. We are going to cover today the high-flying and very strong meta hero, Winston! With his crazy jetpack jumps and auto lock Tesla Cannon, he is a threat at all times. Let’s leap in and learn how to tame this beast.
Tesla Cannon
As previously stated, Winston’s Tesla Cannon is very effective against the enemy team especially against squishies. If you can leap onto their support players and pick them off that will create some big opportunities for your team in the long run. And if you see their whole team around half health, leap on them and get evasive while you zap them. Reap the rewards of POTG. Bonus Tip: Winston’s Tesla Cannon is very easy to use to destroy Symmeta turrets. Make sure those are a focal point in your attack.
Barrier Projector
Now Winston’s barrier is really where the tank part of his kit comes in, but it really all depends on how well you use it. It may only have 600 health, but it has a fairly low recharge rate. Winston’s bubble is utilized best when you dance in and out of it making sure you keep a part of the bubble between you and an enemy targeting you. And using it to protect your team from D.VA bombs, Junkrat Tires and Rein Earthshatters.

Primal Rage
If you are using Winston’s Primal Rage to get elims, you are using it all wrong. Winston’s ultimate should be used to sweep enemies off of an objective to give your team the advantage on it. Sure, if you have all the enemies lined up in a Zarya graviton or near an edge, pop that ult and get those easy kills. But for example, you’re on Attack on Hollywood, your ultimate should be saved for a team push and help them get all the enemies off the point to get as much percentage of that point as you can.
Counters
While Winston is great against low health heroes and greatly against Symmetra, there are two heroes that will absolutely shut you down. Those heroes are Bastion and Reaper. Bastion can simply just tear through your health and shield so fast you won’t be able to do much of anything. And Reaper if he gets too close will also completely shred through you if you don’t get out of there quick.
Winston is a great hero and super easy to pick up. If you’ve been looking for a tank to get good with then he will be an awesome choice most of the time. Now get out there and show ’em what you’re made of!
