Following the Supernatural panel at San Diego Comic-Con, The WB finally confirmed that Season 13 would, in fact, include a backdoor pilot for its spin-off, entitled Wayward Sisters.

Wayward Sisters, the result of the fan-driven Wayward Daughters campaign on social media, will follow Sheriff Jody Mills (Kim Rhodes) and Sheriff Donna Hanscum (Briana Buckmaster) as they work together to help train/raise orphaned or “wayward” teens. The cast also (officially) now includes Claire Novak (Kathryn Newton), the daughter of Castiel’s vessel Jimmy Novak, and Alex Jones (Katherine Ramdeen), formerly known as “Annie Jones,” who was abducted and raised by a nest of vampires before coming to live with Jody.

In addition to the four characters from Supernatural, Patience Turner (Clark Backo), will join the cast as a new character, “a high school overachiever whose life is turned upside down when she discovers she’s a powerful psychic, a gift she inherited from her estranged grandmother, Missouri Moseley,” according to a press release.

Also…Did you hear this?! Missouri Moseley (Loretta Devine) will likely make an appearance in Wayward Sisters, and is definitely coming to Supernatural!

If you’re not sure who she is (understandable, as she was only in one episode), Missouri was the psychic who helped exorcise some pretty powerful spirits in the boys’ childhood home way back in Season One. Moseley was originally supposed to play a more significant role early in the series, but scheduling conflicts prevented Devine from making another appearance. I can’t help but be grateful for that, since in all likelihood, my favorite psychic would probably be dead by now had she been on the show more. On the other hand, had she stuck around, it’s unlikely that we’d have gotten Bobby Singer, probably the only universally loved character on the show (that isn’t an Impala).

Things are looking up for Wayward Sisters, and I can only hope that future casting news makes me even more excited.

What do you think of how the cast is shaping up for the spin-off? Are you hoping for more diversity? Are you already excited for the crossovers like I am (which, CW is crossover happy, so I’d count on them)??
