An observation: sometimes characters (especially villains) can be hampered by a show’s hero. Both Damian Dahrk and Malcolm Merlin-and to a lesser extent, Eobard Thawne-suffered on “Arrow” and “The Flash.” It’s somewhat understandable that hero-driven narratives would be the driving force behind hamstringing villains, but “Legends of Tomorrow” has different notions of story arcs.
With Rip in the hands of the Legion of Doom, the Legends set a course to discover what the amulet Sara has actually does. Both teams (villains and heroes) are in 2017, with the Legends consulting with Professor Stein’s daughter Lily and the LoD in Switzerland to steal Rip’s safety deposit box.
All isn’t well in the LoD. Damian and Malcom are at each other’s throats, trying to decide how to torture Rip. What poor Rip realizes is they’re both being used by Eobard/Reverse Flash. After a botched attempt on Rip’s safety deposit box, the truth about Eobard’s existence comes out: he’s in the Speed Force and being chased by something gross and fast. Dahrk and Merlin use this to their advantage and get verbal confirmation that this is a PARTNERSHIP, not an autocracy.
On the waverider, Professor Stein’s daughter taps into Gideon’s core to ascertain what the amulet’s purpose is. After finding out what the amulet and Spear of Destiny can do together, the Legends determine to locate Rip and break him out of the LoD’s clutches.
Will the Legends catch up to the LoD next week (in 1776 American Revolution, natch)? Can they rescue Rip and prevent more time aberrations? Find out next Tuesday and rock with TGON for more “Legends of Tomorrow” recaps.
