Episode 5 Moo Shu to Go gives us an inside look of the New York Institute.
The episode opens right after Clary had seen Valentine while touching her necklace. She runs to tell Jace just as Alec walks in and starts asking question quickly and angrily as he does all things.
Alec yells at Clary to control her emotions as they distract her. Hmmm Alec, take your own advice and stop taking stuff from Clary. He takes the last thing Jocelyn gave Clary and hides it away so no one can use it. Three-and-a-half Shadowhunters? Clary is a powerful force not half of everything.
Girl time to bond over how Alec is being a jerk and that he actually means well. Don’t worry Clary. 🎵🎵🎵WE’RE ALL IN THIS TOGETHER🎵🎵🎵 CLAP
Of course Izzy wants to know about Clary’s mom. They have been trying to save her this whole season. Plus Mrs. Lightwood isn’t the nicest mom ever.
If Alec is the oldest, why is Maryse looking for Jace? Besides I thought Shadowhunters aren’t big huggers. Now we know who is the favorite.
So Maryse wants them to do something about the Seelies not talking to the Clave but then disses Izzy when she says she has friends and says they must be separated from the Downworlders. No wonder they aren’t talking.
This is what it is like to live with the Lightwoods. Maryse wants everything perfect with the Clave so Alec strives to keep the rules to continue that but Jace continues to do whatever he wants and Maryse doesn’t look down on him at all. Jace is the special one and Alec and Izzy are blamed for everything else. Maryse clearly treasures her adopted son more than her actual children. Don’t worry. Both of them will really make you upset soon.
I’m happy to see Clary and Alec begin to understand each other. Now she must get why he is so uptight about everything. (Also the tol and the smol standing next to each other)
More victims are being found by the mundane police. All the victims have the Sight (aka they can see the Shadow World) and have been drained of their blood by Valentine for experiments. It is a little odd though that Luke calls Valentine Val.
Clary is an amazing artist even when she’s drawing a greatly detailed picture of her lunatic father.
Of course Jace wants to do his own thing anyway. I’m with Alec on this one. Let’s not get Maryse any more mad at them. Alec is trying to talk about him being in love with Jace but Jace doesn’t even think about it like that and tries to play it off/ “I love you too Alec.” YOU CAN’T SAY THAT. Jace is so blinded by Clary that he can’t even see what is right in front of him. My poor baby Alec. This is also not the time for you to mention your girlfriend again (they aren’t actually dating yet guys. It’s okay) and it is deffo not the time to hug it out. Like Jace are you that blind????
Simon is going to get himself in big trouble. With Raphael. I mean look how awesome he looks in that suit. Don’t deny it. Even if he is a little scary.
The tol and the smol sparing is my new aesthetic. Clary is just trying to talk about feelings with him and Alec just wants to make sure she doesn’t get herself killed. “The Law is hard but it is the Law”. This is a very important saying in the Shadow World. Let’s see how many times the Law can be broken. Clary, ranting to Alec about what he needs to do is not going to save you in a fight. It is more important to pay attention what Alec is teaching you. Or you’ll be knocked on your ass like that.
Thank the Angel Clary has a plan. Although we know Valentine’s name isn’t Jonathan Clark, we should wonder who the box actually belongs to. Of course the book readers already know so watch out.
Alec getting a call from an unknown number. I wonder who could it be. Maybe a certain warlock calling for a date- I mean just drinks which could be “fun” as Alec puts it. Of course Alec is playing hard to get. But Magnus is ready.
Look at my baby run after Clary. He should be able to catch her in a few minutes. His strides are at least double of hers.
The werewolf hideout is at a run-down chinese food place. I find it pretty cool how they change forms. Especially that they are fully clothed after changing back. Of course they hate the Clave and the Circle members because Shadowhunters hate Downworlders. Exactly what the Shadowhunters need. More people after Clary and another war to fight.
Clary is seriously freaking out the mundanes around her as Alec goes all big brother on her. Perfect time for Simon to call, right? And of course he is not making any sense and Clary is just not hearing the fear in his voice.
This little thing with Alec and Clary is my favorite part of this whole episode. Clary is just trying to let Alec know it’s okay to be in love with a guy. They are literally arguing about the other one being in love with Jace. This is the funniest argument ever. And now Clary is dragging Alec into more trouble.
Isabelle and Jace show up to Meliorn just as Maryse told them to in order to get information from him. Of course Meliorn has something different on his mind when he sees Isabelle but that is for later when brothers are not around.
Valentine is in Chernobyl speaking Russian to a group of obviously ill men. But of course when they are written on with the Stele, they will become Forsaken, which are beings that are more like zombies. Valentine is mixing Downworlder blood plus making them Forsaken. This will not end up well.
Simon is being super creepy during his reunion with Clary as Alec hangs awkwardly off to the side, making snide comments at them. Don’t worry Alec, no one will find them especially with Simon’s new super fast jump skills.
Alec has no time for mundanes and their stupid excitements as well as Simon and Clary’s backstories. But it is a little odd that Simon can see the runes and open the locked door. He must have been working out or something.
Everything Clary owned is gone. She’s left with nothing but the Shadow World and Simon. That’s scary. At least Simon is all upgraded with his new crazy sense of hearing that helps them find the box of wonders they are looking for.
The werewolves have found them and Alec has his bow out and is ready for a fight. Clary is kidnapped by the pack but she only knows them as Luke’s cop buddies.
We finally get to see what Jace and Isabelle are up to. The Seelie scouts that went out after Valentine have died and the rest of the Fair Folk are in mourning. Their customs are beautiful. Of course they are soon pulled away by Alec calling out for help because he has officially lost Clary.
Jace finds Alec kicking stuff around Clary’s burned room and starts interrogating him. You can see Isabelle’s worry when Simon is mentioned and Jace is freaking out about Clary.
The werewolves take them back to their lair to interrogate them about the Mortal Cup.
Jace and Alec try to track Clary by using one of her drawings but it is just not working. Alec can’t focus with what him and Clary were arguing about before and finally admitting at least to himself that he is a little in love with Jace. The leaning towards each other also isn’t helpful especially because you can see Alec’s eyes flick to Jace’s lips.
Alec was just trying to protect Clary just like Jace asked but he’s just one guy. He can’t help it if all he can think about is your luscious hair.
Handcuffing people is not the correct way to get them to talk to you. As a cop, that guy should know that. Of course Simon and Clary get captured. Stupid mundanes. And of course Simon is about to be killed. As much as werewolves and vampires hate each other, they are too much alike. They both did the exact same thing. Attack Simon to get the answers out of Clary. What? Is Simon going to be half vampire half werewolf now??
Clary just figured out now that they are werewolves. She’s a little slow on the uptake.
At least now Simon is super strong and can get himself out of this mess. They left him in a room with their personal stuff. Seriously? Now he has to call Jace to get him and Clary out of this mess. Once they figure out where he is, Simon has to figure out some diversion. Like starting a fire.
If getting handcuffed and threatened was scary enough, now Clary is locked in a dark cage. And that isn’t scary at all Luke. Way to go. And you come in and stop making sense is even better. To insult her training too. Seriously?
Of course with a savior that hot, I’d get kidnapped all the time.
With a short lived reunion, (damn these two have a lot of reunions) it’s back to fighting the werewolves. More like watching werewolves fight each other.
With Luke as the new alpha of the werewolves of New York, it should be interesting how the pack runs now. But he is too hurt to be worried about the pack. It’s off to Magnus’s for some first warlock aid.
Clary: Alec just say it. You’ll feel better. You’re in love with Jace.
Alec: Forget it. You know what? You’re in love with Jace.
