I think everyone has had some nightmares involving Jason Voorhees, the undead supernatural mass murder with his characteristic hockey mask, who drowned as a boy at Camp Crystal Lake. Decades later, the lake is rumored to be “cursed” and is the setting for a series of mass murders. Jason is featured in all of the films (12 so far), as either the killer or the motivation for the killings.

In the beginning of 2017, we can yet again enjoy Jason’s mass murderers in the new Friday the 13th movie! Here are some interesting points about this movie:

1. The Story
With the change of writers, the official screenplay may have changed over the past two years. Currently, it’s Aaron Guzikowski’s job to write the screenplay, what has been described as Dazed and Confused meets Jason, a genuine last day of school coming of age story that sets a serial killer loose during a party. It sounds like that may still be the direction this is headed. Before that, producer Brad Fuller confirmed that the last script involved Camp Crystal Lake re-opening to the public and Jason would be in a snow setting for a portion of the film. Although they said that the script was already finished in 2015, based on the different stories I hear I’m not so sure about that.

2. Earlier Period
Another interesting point is that there have been some rumors in which the reboot is going directly back to the 80s roots. Meaning it will be a period piece set somewhere in 1980. This has been confirmed by producer Andrew Form. He also, once again, repeated that this new take on the Jason Voorhees mythos will definitely not be a found footage thriller.

3. Immortality
Jason’s immortality has been at the base for a lot of questions from viewers. Most of the time Jason hacks and slashes his way through a fresh group of sex-starved teens, getting himself killed, and then to be inexplicably resurrected for another round. According to a producer, we can expect a more in-depth explanation regarding what Jason exactly is and why he seems to be capable to always keeps coming back from the dead.
