Last week, Mindy wanted to Be Cool about her relationship with Hot Drew and ended up in the hospital because sportsball is stupid, Colette broke Jody’s girlfriends nose, Morgan & Duncan were reunited & Beverly just wanted to drink.
Mindy walks into the office on Monday morning all glowing and happy, Morgan assumes it’s because one of her college friends got divorced but she says that she did a Japanese decluttering thing where you throw out things that don’t bring you happiness aka an electric bill and vegetables. As she starts in on some boring story about soup, voice-over Mindy tells us, her bff’s, about her actual weekend plans aka lots of sex with Hot Drew at Princeton.

Later, Morgan is in her office, asking why she’s keeping the fling with Hot Drew a secret. She says she just decided it wasn’t anyone’s business and Morgan starts listing men she’s dated very publicly where the relationship totally blew up like Danny and also Neel & the hot bartender from the online dating episode and also lots of other dudes that she slayed like whoa. She appreciates being made to sound like a slut but ultimately doesn’t want to get embarassed in front of her coworkers again, and right on cue Tamra asks her to sign for her weight loss suppositories.

At what I’m assuming is a daily meeting later on in the week, Jeremy is informing everyone that they’ve lost 15% of their patients since Danny left – perhaps because, like Beverly, they noticed the lack of stability. I choose to believe that was a fun meta dig at the show teehee. His strategy to get the arrow to point back up again is just to stick together and sing kumbaya. Morgan & Colette are tired of this doomsday speech and hijack it to talk about the hospital softball game that they want everyone to attend. Jody is super excited to go and bring his new girlfriend who can’t tolerate earth’s atmosphere and Mindy says she’s got Leo so she can’t go. I would have a kid only so that I could use them as an excuse to not do things tbh.

Back at her office, she’s video-chatting with Hot Drew who still hasn’t fixed the bed since last time & decides it would be fun if he came to the city this time instead of Mindy going up to Princeton. She’s all “there’s nothing to do here,” which is a weird lie to come up with on the spot, but he just says they’ll brainstorm ideas later and that he’s super excited to see her. The scene ends with Mindy looking up with a worried look on her face, presumably at the idea that out of the Princeton bubble, this ship might sink.

In the breakroom, Jody wants to invite Colette to dinner at a very fancy Burger place that even turned Paul McCartney into a meat eater for 8 days a week. Morgan & Tanra push her to go because free food (Morgan) and that place is bomb (Tamra). Tamra tells her to suck it up and go eat this 16$ burger, which is when Morgan flips out at the price and compares it to the bowl of nuts that’s his food for the month so then Beverly shares some kind of bone with him from the chicken family thinking emoji grossed out emoji.

Mindy is picking up Hot Drew in her cool new Lexus but Danny had some sort of emergency so she has to take care of Leo that night. Drew is cool with it and says he loves kids but in a moment of amazing maternal instinct and character growth, she tells him it’s too early to introduce them – he totally is cool with it and offers to stay at a hotel so they can go “hard R” the next day. Hot Drew also giggles adorable-y and makes me melt.

That night, Colette is at dinner with Jody & Courtney and is feeling super out of place, the burger is “weird,” she asked the chef to bring her ketchup and she drank from the soy sauce bottle. To make things worst, Jody tells her about Courtney’s 4th of July cruise plans and how she wants them to go along – this really enrages Colette who I’m guessing wants to watch fireworks and drink beer and shoot some guns like they do every year. Yes I am stereotyping the white people, let me have my fun.

The next day, the Shulman gang, along with Dr. Ledreau and the Deslauriers, are at the sportsball field ready to play. At the same time, Mindy is talking with Drew and they make breakfast and sex plans for later in the morning. Jody & his girlfriend are having a picnic on the field and are dressed like they’re going to the Kentucky Derby. Tamra & Duncan are dancing and being adorable, Brendan is mansplaining dancing to them because he has a B.A. in modern dance and Beverly is drinking wine because duh. Jody isn’t paying attention to Colette and Courtney keeps laughing this really annoying high pitched laugh; leaving Colette no choice but to accidentally on purpose smack her in the nose with the ball.

As Mindy is getting ready for her sexy day with Hot Drew, Morgan calls in a panic. Now that Colette has been ejected from the game, they need another woman on their team if they want to stay in the tournament. She doesn’t want to and also can’t because she’s meeting up with Drew for breakfast. Morgan begs and whimpers and promises it’ll only be a half hour so she agrees. She shows up to practice and Brendan is all rude cos he thinks he’s all cool with his beard now.

They start playing and it is not going well for them, Morgan is a terrible pitcher, and hours go by with the OBGYN Baby Makers just losing and losing and losing. But then, the Dermatologists that they’ve been playing forfeit the game because the sun is too strong and sunscreen is a lie! gasp so they advance to the next round. The win means that Mindy would have to delay her date again, Jeremy wants her to stay so he can have one piece of good news for his newsletter to father and Dr. Ledreau doesn’t want to go home because it smells like old man in there. Tamra’s like if Mindy can leave I can leave and Morgan decides that the best way to get her to stay would be to tell her she can do whatever she wants to him ~sexually~. Upon hearing this, Mindy understandably runs off the field.

Jody and Colette are at the hospital waiting for Courtney. All the good doctors are out playing softball so they’re stuck with one whose hands were deemed too shaky for sports (but not for surgery hmmm). Dr. K is mad at Colette but she insists that it was an accident. He doesn’t believe her, knowing that she has perfect aim – only woman he knows that can use a urinal. She admits that she doesn’t love the Courtney is trying to change him, he didn’t even send their horse a birthday card sniffles.

Mindy overhears 2 doctors from the orthopedics team trash talking them and saying they thought Shulman would’ve shut down after Danny left. In an effort to prove them wrong, demonstrate that the practice (and metaphorically herself) are doing just fine without Danny – she tells them OBGYN is gonna kick their asses and returns to the game.

She changes back, runs on the field, gives a motivational speech about their reputations in the sports huddle. When they break the huddle and chant “we can do this” Beverly shouts “Carly Fiorina” & I died laughing for a solid 10 minutes – Mindy says Trump 2016 which is less funny and more aaaah terrifying don’t do this Lahiri.

She calls Drew to bail again and he’s at Serendipity, getting hissed at by some little girls in princess dresses aka the most terrifying group on earth. She says something for work came up and he assumes it’s a delivery so she doesn’t correct him. He’s so nice and understanding of the “life of a doctor” and says he’ll probably go work out again. At this point I have been screaming at Mindy to stop lying to him and to invite him to watch them play for probably 12 minutes but I guess she can’t hear me.

Courtney is finally rolled out of the hospital, in a wheelchair for some reason, and is told she’ll be able to smell again in a few years. I’m no doctor but maybe this’ll fix her crazy intense allergy problem! While she and Jody are waiting for the discharge paperwork, Drew walks in. He’s looking for Mindy, he brought her some bear claws to cheer her up after her intense delivery. Jody is all “you can’t be dating she never mentioned you” and Hot Drew is like “stfu bro I’ve seen her naked.” Anyway Jody tells Hot Drew that Mindy is in fact playing a softball game in Central Park.

They’re still getting annihilated on the field so Mindy texts Drew that the twins she delivered came out fighting, but he texts back that she looks super relaxed from where he’s standing and she’s like oohhhhh shit he’s here. They have a really great and honest and adult talk about feelings and fear. She says that he’s the first guy since Danny that she saw a future with so she wanted to protect it and keep it quiet in case it blew up and then he says it might not blow up and that he really likes her a lot and flashes his dimples and I fall more deeply in love with him – as does Min, probably. SHE THEN HAS AN EPIPHANY i.e. he’s a sports coach and they’re sporting so she asks him to help and he agrees.

What happens next is a sportsball montage, Hot Drew plays to everyones strengths, tells Mindy to run and look over her shoulder like when a seagull tries to steal her churro, Dr. Ledreau is made to sacrifice bump the ball so others can move bases and Morgan is moved from pitcher to human obstacle. All goes super well, Tamra is pitching at the end and slaying it. They just need one more out to win and it comes down to Mindy so she runs as fast as she ever has and tumbles over the fence but she CATCHES THE BALL! Drew runs up to her to make sure she’s okay and to stop Morgan from giving her mouth to mouth – Brendan also runs up but only to make sure they won.

As always tends to happen when sports are involved, Mindy is in the hospital getting her sprained ankle wrapped. Jody and Colette walk in with double balloons because they’re trying to be more independent. Mindy finally introduces Drew to everyone as her boyfriend and he’s all shocked and happy about it. Then Morgan makes some inappropriate jokes and Drew is all get out of here and then he laughs at Mindy’s joke and kisses her on the head and everyone is happy and I never want them to break up okay bye.

Another great episode this week, it was so nice to see Mindy in a healthy relationship with a guy that didn’t overreact to things and brought her bearclaws. She also made all the right choices for herself which was something the character had been struggling with since season 3. I feel like we’re headed towards a batch of final episodes that’ll knock it out of the park & I’m so excited!
