Lights off. Flashlight on. Let’s go.

Halloween is less than two weeks away, which means it is peak season for dark hallways, mysterious noises, and games that make you sleep with a lamp on. Horror games hand you the same job over and over: keep moving, even when every instinct says to freeze. The characters who make it through are not fearless. They are the ones who decide to take the next step anyway.

Five survivors, five games, and one attitude to carry into your Monday. Grab a weapon and keep moving.

1. “Well, I really don’t give a damn. Rain or shine, you’re going down.” — Leon S. Kennedy, Resident Evil 4

Leon is a rookie government agent dropped into a remote village in Spain to bring the president’s daughter home, and he meets nearly every impossible situation with a wisecrack. This line is aimed at Salazar, the tiny aristocrat who has spent the game feeling untouchable. Leon is not impressed.

Take that into your week. The thing that looks huge and untouchable on your calendar is still just a thing, and you have faced bigger. Walk in with a little swagger and see how fast it shrinks.

2. “I have not come this far to die now.” — Nick, Left 4 Dead 2

Nick is the cynical con man of the group, the guy who never seems fully invested in anything. That is exactly what makes this line land. When the pressure peaks, even the most reluctant survivor in the crew decides he is not quitting.

You have already put in the early mornings, the late nights, and the work nobody saw. You did not come this far to stall out on a Monday. Finish what you started.

3. “We will break through the surface and crash into the light.” — Alan Wake, Alan Wake 2

Alan Wake is a writer trapped in a nightmare that keeps bending around him, and he spends the whole game fighting his way toward something better. This is one of his final rallying cries, and it sounds exactly like someone who has run out of patience with the dark.

Even when the week starts murky, the light is coming. Push through the foggy parts, because the surface is closer than it feels.

4. “We will live. And we will heal.” — Amicia de Rune, A Plague Tale: Requiem

Amicia has spent her story protecting her little brother through plague, war, and loss, and she has every reason to be exhausted. This line is her answer to all of it. It is not a wish. It is a promise she has decided to keep.

If you are carrying a lot right now, family, work, everything at once, this is permission to be both tired and determined. You can do both. Keep going and keep taking care of yourself on the way.

5. “Rip and tear, until it is done.” — Doom Slayer, Doom Eternal

The Doom Slayer has been marching through the armies of Hell for decades, and this line has become his battle cry. It is short, loud, and entirely free of doubt. There is no plan B, only the job in front of him and the intention to finish it.

Pick the task you have been circling and attack it with that kind of focus. No warm up speech, no second guessing. Rip and tear until it is done.
