Being a part of fandoms is a great thing. It brings joy, community, union, and high levels of excitement. Like a lot of things, it also benefits of being at the right place at the right time. There have been several times in just the last decade that proves being a part of fandoms pays off. But arguably the best time to be a fan was this past April. April of 2026. There have been years where several big projects like movies and/or shows premiered in the same year. Those years are argued to be the best year for those types of projects. But April did not play around. So many different projects, news, and stories came out in such a short time, it was hard to spend time to celebrate just one. The month even concentrated all that in just one week, a few times. April was just a different breed. Having so much fandom content coming out in just a span of thirty days, was just pure chaotic joy.
The biggest projects that premiered in the month were Maul: Shadow Lord, Daredevil: Born Again season 2, The Boys season 5, and Invincible season 4. All these shows had high amounts of hype going into them. For years, Darth Maul has always been a highly demanded character. Star Wars: The Clone Wars brought him back seemingly from the dead and only made his status grow higher because of it. Since the show spent some time to give him his own arc for a few episodes, that status continued to grow. As well as the demand. Maul: Shadow Lord finally took Maul from a supporting role and gave him the main character respect. That gave a lot of fans hope. Daredevil: Born Again season 2 was coming off a strong base that season 1 created. With more emphasis on Daredevil, season 2 was already having promise. With more spotlight on Kingpin and especially Bullseye, the anticipation grew. And with announcement, inclusion and return of Jessica Jones, season 2 set expectations high. Whenever Invincible comes back, it more times than not stirs a lot of excitement. With a lot of stories occurring at once, the show has tons to offer. Mark Grayson battling Viltrumites physically and fending off their expectations on him, is a strong storyline and it only deepens with each season. Omni-Man’s herculean redemption arc also benefits from each of these seasons. Both storylines keep fans invested. And wanting more which makes them come back. Then, The Boys antics are always entertaining…and at times force viewers to ask themselves what in fact are they watching. Karl Urban’s and Antony Starr’s portrayals of Billy Butcher and Homelander respectfully are always the core of the show. And each actor’s performance is Emmy worthy. The dark and twisted usage of superhero tropes keep fans guessing how the season will top the previous. But more than anything, it being the last season, fans are highly anticipating how the show comes to an end, especially the fate of Homelander. All these shows headlined April. This lineup was giving fans a feast of diverse, multiple rounds of entertainment.
And for a few weeks, all these shows came out in the same week. In other words, for consecutive weeks, fans had the blessing to watch all these shows in the same week. Maul: Shadow Lord started it on Monday. Daredevil: Born Again came out on Tuesday. And The Boys and Invincible came out on Wednesdays. If fans really wanted to extend the epic week, they could have pushed either The Boys or Invincible to Thursday so it could have been four days in row of great fandom entertainment.
But even though these shows were the main acts so to speak, does not mean other things were not happening. Another show that has a franchise behind as well as a fanbase is Monarch: Legacy of Monsters season 2. This series showed the adventures of former Monarch agents, their friends and allies following Titans in the same universe that Godzilla and Kong call home; the Monsterverse. Monarch: Legacy of Monsters introduced new lore and Titans to the Monsterverse. As well as gave Godzilla and Kong their moment to show off even more of their fighting skills. Episodes of Monarch season 2 came on Fridays, which meant if viewers were indeed imbedded in the fandom, all week they had something to watch. Maul on Monday. Daredevil: Born Again on Tuesdays. The Boys and Invincible on Wednesday. And Monarch on Fridays. In one week, fans got superheroes, Jedis and Godzilla and Kong. Cinema.
And there were other material coming out that filled in the cracks to make April even more solidified. Absolute Batman is a new, bold, fresh take on Batman and his mythos. This new universe gets what makes Batman and his world then takes it in drastic but applauded changes. Bane towers over an already 6’7 Batman. Killer Croc is borderline Godzilla. And The Joker is a demon…literally. With all the new changes, fans were anticipating what Robin, or the Robins, will look like and who they will be. April finally revealed what they are in the universe. From the looks of it, Dick Grayson, Jason Todd, Tim Drake, Stephanie Brown and Duke Thomas. What makes them drastic to fit in the tone of the Absolute Universe is that they take on the appearance of a NASCAR pit crew. But more than that, they resemble the pilots that control the giant Jaegers in the Pacific Rim Universe. So that means, each Robin pretty much controls a towering robot. A bold new direction for each Robin. Perhaps nothing any fans were thinking of but was an instant welcome.
Spread out the month was another comic book that paired two of the greatest superheroes; Superman and Spider-Man. Marvel and DC are still continuing their crossover run that started with Batman and Deadpool. But the pairing of Superman and Spider-Man is just a perfect match. They both inspire. They put others and everything before themselves. No problem is beneath them. Have a genuine soft spot for allies and especially enemies. And of course, make a hell of a team since one is a photographer and a journalist. The story capitalized on the hopeful and positive energy the two exude. It was a story that brought good feelings and highlighted what makes Superman and Spider-Man great. Only to be bettered by having them together.
Other things that happened was an announcement of a new Lord of the Rings movie and the cast announcement for Hunt for Gollum. The trailer for Godzilla: Minus Zero was revealed. The first trailer for Avengers: Doomsday was shown at CinemaCon. The first look of Punisher: One More Kill was released. The first look for a horror inspired Clayface film was revealed. It was announced that a team up, Justice League style, will come to the Absolute Universe, and one of the last things that got possibly leaked was the conformation of a new Injustice game. All this, news and events that could take a year to get released, occurred in the span of thirty days. It was concentrated to such a short span of time, it makes April the best time to be a part of fandom.
