I am always on the hunt for a good couch coop game. After a long day at work, my spouse and I enjoy lounging on the couch and playing something easy. We love a good RPG like Baulder’s Gate 3 or a survival title like Valheim. However, sometimes, we just want to play something cute with a linear storyline. That is why we were so overjoyed when I found Cat Quest II. The developers, The Gentlebros, made something special. It was light, fun, and full of cat puns. Therefore, when I downloaded Cat Quest III, I knew we were in for a treat. So, without further ado, let’s get into it.

The Plot of Cat Quest III

In Cat Quest III, players will find themselves in the same 2.5D explorable world as in the previous title. However, instead of engaging in a war-torn environment, the players are now swashbuckling purrivateers! Welcome to the Purribean! Pi-rats will compete with you to find the North Star Treasure, a long-lost treasure that will grant you anything you desire. With your spirit companion, Captain Cappy, you will sail the seas, engage in naval combat, and take down the Pirate King. Ultimately, you are the captain of your destiny and will find fun, loot, and more in this title.

Thoughts on Cat Quest III

We were stoked for this game. Plus, it came out on International Cat Day, which is adorable. So, when the release date came, we booted up the Xbox and settled in for an evening of fun. Immediately, we were reminded why we appreciated the series so much. The Gentlebros have a flair for comedy and charm like no other developers I have seen. The animal puns always land, and playing their games is just a joy. It feels like I got my money’s worth and then some.

The storyline is easy to follow, and the ending made me tear up. This is a rare treat for me, especially with a cute game like this. Additionally, the combat felt cleaned up from the last title. It felt smoother, and I appreciated that attention to detail. Plus, the naval combat was a lot of fun. We joked that it was better than Skull and Bones. However, that joke was not too far off. Overall, we had a wonderful time playing this game.

Unfortunately, the one con I must bring up here is the length of the story. I felt that the previous game did have a longer runtime. We finished this installment faster than anticipated, and the ending felt open-ended. This may mean another game or that DLC is in the works. At this time, there is no news regarding that. Ultimately, every gamer wants more content; this was not a deal breaker for us. We had a wonderful time playing this game and will eventually play it again.

Odds & Ends

If you want to sail the high seas with some kitties, Cat Quest III is available on PlayStation 4 and 5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox X|S and One, and Steam. For a recommendation on a similar title, I would suggest Cat Quest II. They are both excellent couch coop games that I have always recommended. Overall, I look forward to seeing what the future brings to this series.
