I know what you’re thinking. We don’t need a new series about Darth Vader. He has been in plenty of movies and it’s time for new content. However, there is still so much potential to tell Vader’s story. Many people only see Darth Vader as this iconic villain and although technically he is a villain, he is also a victim.

We all know how the story goes. Anikan Skywalker is manipulated by Emperor Palpatine, thus turning Anakin against the Jedi to save Padme from death. While on Mustafar, Obi-wan sneaks aboard Padme’s ship and shortly after he reveals that he was on the ship, the most iconic lightsaber duel in Star Wars history ensues! Due to Anakin’s arrogance, Obi-Wan is victorious and leaves Anakin in the worst condition possible. To this day fans still debate why and how Obi-wan could leave him in the condition he was in. Some say it’s because when Anakin was no longer a threat, Kenobi couldn’t harm him any further as it was not the Jedi way to attack the unarmed. Others believe that Obi-Wan left him there so that he could allow the force to decide his fate.

While the once great chosen one was lying near the edge of the lava attempting to crawl up the hill with his one remaining mechanical arm, he was finally rescued by Emperor Palpatine. Palpatine completed Anakin’s transition into the iconic Darth Vader that we all know and love by having his medical team attach mechanical limbs to his three remaining original limbs that were cut off by his former Master. In addition to securing these three new mechanical limbs so that he can still walk and use his arms, Palpatine’s medical team also attached Vader’s mask and we began to hear his iconic breathing that he is so well known for thus completing his transition. However, what many people don’t realize is that once Vader was in his new suit and Palpatine lied to him by telling him she died from when he force choked her while in a fit of rage, Vader actually tried to crush Palpatine with the force only to quickly discover that his connection to the force was severely reduced. This was because after losing so many limbs, his midichlorian count fell far below what it was originally. Once he felt this, he realized that he could not defeat Darth Sidious (aka Emperor Palpatine) alone. After losing everything he had ever had all for nothing, he realized that there was no escape from his new life. All he had left was Darth Sidious and the Empire.

We have seen Vader carry out countless missions at the mercy of The Emperor, but no one has seen what Vader felt like at the beginning of his transition into the Empire as The Emperor’s right-hand man. There are so many questions that have gone unanswered for so long. Did Vader ever resist The Emperor’s orders? If he did, what happened and why was he still working alongside him if he is as powerful as Darth Vader? Did he ever find out that Palpatine lied to him about Padme’s death or that Palpatine couldn’t save Padme from death and that Anakin was just a pawn for The Emperor to gain power? Did he regret turning his back on the Jedi and everyone who ever had faith in him? How did he deal with the loss of Padme and his unborn child since he was unaware that his wife was having twins, and how did he feel about his previous Master after the way he left him to die? When and how did he get his red lightsaber? Did it happen when he killed his first Jedi with his new lightsaber during his hunt for the remaining Jedi? Lastly and most importantly, did he ever try to find his way back to the light after he visited Padme’s tomb, after reminiscing about his old life and the person he used to be?

A series focused on Darth Vader from his point of view is exactly what Star Wars is missing! We need Hayden Christensen to make a return, especially after his immaculate performance in the Kenobi series. It will answer all the questions that we Star Wars fans have pondered for nineteen years. It is the closure we all need from the most interesting yet tragic storyline in live-action Star Wars history yet.
