Coming down the home stretch brought us what I considered a meh episode called Outpost 22. It had its place, where it had to set up the drama for the last three episodes, so by the end of it, it did its job. It was just sort of a drag to get there. The Commonwealth is transporting our group to an offsite workplace. Most of them are on a bus, while Rosita, Gabriel, and Maggie, for some reason, are transported in a truck. Although Maggie was able to shake off whatever they were given to fall asleep, she saw that the guard in the back was sleeping. So she wakes up Gabriel, who wakes up Rosita, Rosita and Gabriel jump out of the truck, but the just-awakened guard catches Maggie. Maggie fights with the guard and is able to shoot the driver, crash the truck, and is also able to escape. This puts Rosita and Gabriel in a different spot from Maggie.

Rosita and Gabriel believe they hear a train, well they believe but also can’t believe it. So they decide to head towards the noise. Maggie is going down the train tracks and being followed by a kid walker. She is struggling to kill it, thinking of Hershel. A trooper stops at the intersection she is hiding at, and she sneaks behind and kills him, and the kid walker catches up to Maggie again, and she has to kill the child which is very difficult for her. Conveniently Daryl and Carol come up to Maggie in a jeep. They saw that Connie was captured and would likely be put on the train.

The group arrives at some barn, where Rosita and Gabriel catch up. They all want something a bit different but also somewhat the same. They want to save Connie and their people. They also want to track down where all the children are and save them. The group attacks the train after putting a block in the path. They kill a number of the soldiers and, capture the train conductor, take him back to interrogate him. Although he doesn’t want to talk for fear that his family will be killed, he doesn’t give up much information and ends up killing himself. Our group has a radio from Commonwealth, and someone is calling for an update, so Rosita plays off like she is a lost lone soldier from her group looking for help. The person on the other line tells her where to go for help and that they don’t have enough soldiers to track her down because a group is coming in from processing that used to live there. Everyone in this group knows that Alexandria is overtaken by the Commonwealth, known as Outpost 22.

At the train tracks repair, Negan, Ezekiel, Magna, and Kelly are trying to formulate a plan, counting the guards and locations. Kelly wants to run, but Ezekiel says it’s not a good idea, and sure enough, others take off and are executed. Negan wants to do what he can to save others and, most importantly, his wife and unborn child, so he asks Ezekiel if he will work with him. The group needs hope which is more of Ezekiel’s strengths, and he warns that what he ends up doing likely means he won’t return. Ezekiel reluctantly agrees, even though he doesn’t know what he actually agrees with.
