If you missed my article on Ra, it can be found here.

Kumbhakarna was a rakshasa in Hindu beliefs. Rakshasas are wicked demigods, making them difficult to defeat. Kumbhakarna was a virtuous one among them. His temper was something to be feared, though.

Kumbhkarna’s parents are Vishrava, his father, and Kaikashi, his mother. He has three siblings, two brothers, and a sister. His brothers are Ravana and Vibhishana, and his sister is Shurpanakha. Kumbhkarna has had two consorts. Vajrajwala, with whom he had Kumbha and Nikumbha, is one. Karkati is the other one with whom he had Bisasura.

Kumbhkarna was huge. He is more rotund than Dionysus in Greek mythology when he is depicted as jolly. What comes to mind is a fat Hulk, minus the green. He LOVED to eat, and it was dangerous. He would eat everything in sight, even humans. He is also described as intelligent and righteous. On top of that, he was powerful. So powerful that the leader of the Hindu gods, Indra, is jealous of him. He was undefeated, and he destroyed Rama’s army until Lord Rama himself killed him.

Kumbhkarna wasn’t one for fighting. He preferred philosophy and learning. As I said, he was brilliant. He liked philosophy so much that Narad Muni took him on as a student. Kumbhakarna really had no desire to take part in wars. He went against Lord Rama’s army only because of his brother Ravana. He felt he had to help his brother save face because he was that loyal.

In the end, fighting for the wrong reason costs him his life. What do you think of Kumbhakarna? His name is one I can’t pronounce. What do you think of him in the game? Let me know in the comments below. As always, have fun storming the castle!
