The Game of Nerd’s favorite convention, SiliCon, returns to the San Jose Convention Center from August 27th – 28th, 2022. Why do we love this convention so much? Well, we have quite a history with it. We were one of the first press outlets that covered this convention when it was first starting out and was initially called Silicon Valley Comic-Con. This small convention first took off in 2016 and hasn’t looked back since. In 2020 when the pandemic hit, the convention was then handed over to Mythbusters star and cosplay guru Adam Savage and rebranded as SiliCon. The convention has always relied on showing off cool technology and what Silicon Valley has to offer. Adam Savage has added his mark by adding a lot more cosplay creators. If you haven’t seen our Funko Pop Cosplays, then get ready for some more! Silicon also has been known to pull in huge names like Stan Lee, David Tennant, and Grant Gustin, just to name a few. Thus why we couldn’t be more excited about it.

While we may be a few months out from the convention itself, they have already announced some talented cosplay makers that will be attending. The cosplay contest will also be in full swing for anyone ready to show off their incredible creations. So far, in terms of celebrity guests, the following have been announced:

  • Christopher Lloyd from Back To The Future
  • George Takei from Star Trek
  • Alan Ritchson from Amazon Prime’s Reacher

As we get closer to the convention, we know that they will be announcing more and more guests. From experience, we know that this event tends to draw a huge crowd, and VIP passes tend to sell out months before the event. Last year, they required everyone to wear masks regardless of whether they were wearing a cosplay mask. They state they are following the current CDC requirements for California in terms of Mega Events on their website right now. Once again, as we get closer to the event, we should get more definitive answers on what will be required for entrance into the convention.

If you are ready to purchase your SiliCon, you can do so here! Comment below if you will be going, so we will keep an eye out for you! 🙂
