Mother’s Day is on the horizon. It is Sunday, May 8th this year. I figured I would tell you about a few of my favorite moms in the spirit of supporting them. Once upon a time, the model moms to aspire to were June Cleaver (played by Barbara Billingsley) on Leave It To Beaver and Clair Huxtable (played by Phylicia Rashad) on The Cosby Show. I aspire to be more like Morticia Addams. I am very sure I fall far short. I know my sense of style does.

You might have guessed my favorite mom is Morticia Addams (played by Anjelica Huston in the movies and Carolyn Jones in the TV show) from The Addams Family. Ms. Huston played Morticia to perfection. I think she did better than Ms. Jones. Change my mind. I dare you. In any case, she always supports her kids and loves them so much. She and Gomez are a fantastic example of a loving relationship with their kids. She has a wicked sense of style and is weird and gothic, and makes no apologies for it even though she doesn’t fit in with the other moms.

Lily Munster (played by Yvonne De Carlo) is another “gothic” mom from The Munsters. Lily is a vampire and is married to Herman, who looks like Frankenstein’s Monster. When I looked him up, he was, in fact, one of them. Apparently, Frankenstein made multiples. Like Morticia, she loves her child. She is also raising her niece Marilyn. She loves her family fiercely and accepts them as they are. What more could you ask for in a mom?

Chloe Decker (played by Lauren German) from Lucifer is a “supernatural” (not the show) mom, in my opinion. When you give birth to an angel, you get that designation in my mind. Nevertheless, she managed to hold down a job in the police department as a detective, fall in love with Lucifer, deal with all the celestial fallout, co-parent with her ex-husband Dan, and be a rockin’ mom. She eventually becomes a single mom of both Trixie and Rory. But don’t bag on Lucifer. He had to go back to Hell. She seems to have done a great job, though. She truly earned her eternity with the angel she loves, Lucifer.

While Martha Kent (played by Annette O’Toole for Smallville and Diane Lane in The Justice League) did not give birth to Clark, she did help shape him into the man and superhero he would become. When he crash-landed, she and her husband Johnathan took him in and raised him as their own. When Clark started displaying powers, Martha didn’t run away screaming. Instead, she did what she could to help and love and comfort him. Martha’s a rockstar.

I know Hilda and Zelda Spellman (played by Lucy Davis and Miranda Otto in 2018 as well as Caroline Rhea and Beth Broderick in 1996) from both The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina and Sabrina the Teenage Witch, respectively, are not mothers but have raised Sabrina in her steed. They had guided her, made sure her education was taken care of, clothed her, fed her, and cared for her when she was sick. But, most of all, they love her and make sure she has a family. While the witches in The Chilling Adventures being Satanic witches is something I don’t particularly agree with (most witches don’t believe in Satan), I do love the way Hilda and Zelda are portrayed in this incarnation. The ones from the Archie comics were cool, too, but I like the ones from The Chilling Adventures better.

Did I miss your favorite pop culture mom? Tell me about her. What are you doing for your mom this year? Let me know in the comments below. My husband usually makes me dinner and cleans the house. Sometimes we play video games too. I am not big on being fussed over, so that is just perfect for me. Until next time, take your mom to storm the castle too!
