*Some spoilers for Avengers: Infinity War ahead*
MCU fan favorite Tom Holland as Spider-Man is set to return to screen first in the untitled Avengers 4 film (May 3, 2019), and then again in his second solo movie, Spider-Man: Far From Home (July 5, 2019). While we know virtually nothing about Avengers 4 (except that there’s some kind of time reversal which allows Spider-Man and Doctor Strange and various other MCU characters to be resurrected for sequel films), we know quite about the next Spider-Man installment.

Out of New York
Perhaps it can be deduced from the movie’s title, but even so Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige recently confirmed that Spidey’s sequel will take the teen abroad. This marks the first time that the character has tackled overseas missions in any adaptation (unless you count the airport in Germany where he made his MCU debut in Civil War, or his intergalactic travels in Infinity War). Tom Holland recently posted pictures on his Instagram story of his filming location in London. We’re not yet sure why Spider-Man is taking his crime-fighting business across the pond, but it’s a pretty safe bet that it has to do with tracking down some bad guys.
2 New Villains
We know at least of the antagonists of Far From Home will be Mysterio, who will be played by Jake Gyllenhaal. Marvel put out a casting call for another villain that seems to have some connection to this film, but we aren’t sure who that is yet.
Haunting Past
Despite Infinity War‘s dramatic ending, the fact that a bunch of vaporized characters are getting sequels (including Spider-Man) means that Thanos’ master plan will be undone in Avengers 4. But that also means that other heartbreaking events are likely to occur — specifically the death of Iron Man. This and all of the events of Infinity War/Avengers 4 will take a toll on young Peter Parker, and likely mature the character greatly. We will be looking at a totally new, grown-up version of Spider-Man in this new movie.
Bigger Laughs
But even though Peter Parker will undergo some major character growth, he’s still going to stay the goodhearted, funny New Yorker we know and love. And in an effort to keep the tone from the first film that people loved so much, Marvel has promised that Far From Home will even funnier than Homecoming. Whether or not they actually pull that off is another question, as Homecoming was a major crowd pleaser.
