“Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D”-The Final Season Hilarity

We’ve all seen final seasons of shows where we know the writers have mailed it in, the directors are going through the motions and the actors are looking forward to their next gig (*cough* Game of Thrones last 2 seasons *cough*). Too many shows have not gone out in a blaze of glory but with a whimper of wackness.

And then Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D said to hold our jump ships.

Recreating the fun, whimsy and hilarious action of their first 2 seasons, ABC’s red-haired stepchild has all the gears greased and is sprinting toward an exceptionally interesting series finale.

Using time travel as an actual tool to further the story-not as a plot hole that makes no sense (*cough* Avengers: Endgame *cough*)-the intrepid S.H.I.E.L.D team jumps to 1930s NYC first. With the LMD (live model decoy) Coulson back in play, the team feels ready to face all of the challenges ahead of them. The biggest is not allowing the Chronicons to destroy Hydra; without Hydra’s rise, there’d be no S.H.I.E.L.D. Without S.H.I.E.L.D, there’d be no Avengers. And so on and so forth. It’s a conundrum, one that the team (especially Daisy) struggles continually.

While the first 4 episodes have not had fan-favorite Iain de Castecker (Agent Fitz), his wife and fellow agent Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge) has dropped several clues that indicate Fitz is alive and trying to rejoin the team through the multitudes of the multiverse. With Fitz’s absence, the team was rounded out with a familiar Marvel television face.

I was personally overjoyed to see Agent Carter veteran Enver Gjokaj’s Agent Daniel Sousa make his Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D début in episode 3. Gjokaj has a strong relationship with ABC shows; he recurred this past season on Emergence. With his fate changed from MCU Daniel Sousa (married to agent Peggy Carter, children, long career), this incarnation Sousa was slated to die in 1955 at the hands of Hydra. Saved by Coulson, Sousa is now an unofficial part of Mac’s team.
