The paid DLC pack Guns, Love, and Tentacles: The Marriage of Wainwright & Hammerlock was released on March 26, 2020. Hammerlock and Wainwright have officially decided to tie the knot on the frozen planet Xylourgos, and of course, their Vault Hunter friends have been asked to attend along with their wedding planner Gaige, her BFF Deathtrap, and the loveable Claptrap. Upon arrival, the Vault Hunter learns that Xylourgos is home to a giant tentacle monster and the cult that worships them. The leader of this cult, due to some unforeseen circumstances, decided to steal away one of the grooms, and it’s up to the Vault Hunter to bring him back!
While I won’t give away too many of the surprised nestled into Guns, Love, and Tentacles, I will say it enhanced the gameplay of Borderlands 3. Xylourgos is one of the most exciting planets they’ve unveiled yet, it’s creepy and has an H.P. Lovecraft feel. While the main storyline is compelling and tears at your heartstrings, the side missions are just as impactful. In one mission, the Vault Hunter must follow a cursed gumshoe into the ethereal plane, and it nearly had me in tears. If you’re not one for pausing your gaming experience to grab a tissue, there is also a hilarious callback to the Moxxi’s Heist DLC, which is sure to make you chuckle. Sure, there was one mini-boss that we all know was a pain, but aside from that, this DLC was terrific, and I know I’ll be putting several more hours into it before I eventually must return to the real world.
I have put hundreds of hours into Borderlands 3, completing all the base game achievements to become the Ultimate Vault Hunter. I finished Moxxi’s Heist so quickly that I was determined to take my time with this DLC; unfortunately, I kind of failed in that regard. Although, I do want to hear if any of you have completed the secret achievement! Don’t tell me what it is, I just want to know if it can be done. In the end, I highly recommend this DLC to anyone wishing to expand their Borderlands horizons.
