Jeez, guess I feel like it was just Tuesday last week. *cue laugh track* I crack myself up. Anyways guys, happy Tuesday. This week’s pick is a personal favorite of mine from 2019, Doctor Sleep.

Struggling with alcoholism, Dan Torrance remains traumatized by the sinister events that occurred at the Overlook Hotel when he was a child. His hope for a peaceful existence soon becomes shattered when he meets Abra, a teen who shares his extrasensory gift of the “shine.” Together, they form an unlikely alliance to battle the True Knot, a cult whose members try to feed off the shine of innocents to become immortal. – Warner Brothers Pictures

This movie absolutely blew me away. It’s definitely not the best movie of 2019, that’s Parasite but it might just be my favorite. The Shining is considered one of the greatest horror movies ever made and the book is considered one of the greatest horror novels ever written. Doctor Sleep the novel by Stephen King is, of course, a sequel to his book; he famously hates the movie. Mike Flanagan the director and writer took on an incredible task in writing and directing a sequel to the book and movie. Not an easy task but he pulled it off flawlessly. Not all the credit goes to Flanagan, this is a wonderfully acted film led by the great Ewan McGregor and the equally as great Rebecca Ferguson. Hollywood, please give Mike Flanagan more Stephen King properties.

Before closing, I do want to give a special shoutout to Adam Egypt Mortimer’s Daniel Isn’t Real I caught it on VOD. It’s a bummer that it’s only getting a DVD release but nonetheless it is worth a watch. It’s best going in not knowing much but I will say it is a trippy, creepy, psychological body horror. I know, wild combo. But if you like horror like me, you gotta watch this. It’s only like 90 minutes, it’s a quickie but it’s worth it. It really unsettled me. Peep the synopsis below and then maybe buy or rent it.

Troubled Luke suffers a violent family trauma and resurrects his childhood imaginary friend to help him cope. Charismatic and full of energy, `Daniel’ helps Luke to achieve his dreams, before pushing him into a desperate fight for his own soul.

Next week, we go fast.
