I wrote an article about the latest movie in the X-men franchise at the beginning of the year, which you can check out here. Much to the nerd worlds’ dismay, the New Mutants has been delayed yet again. The first release date for the film was April 13th in 2018. That was then delayed until February 22nd in 2019. Now this highly anticipated genre-bender of horror and superhero movie has been pushed back even further – to August 2nd of 2019. Fans can only assume that the film is going through some massive changes.

The public has very few details about the film. Josh Boone, best known for directing The Fault in Our Stars. Boone promises that The New Mutants will be a full-fledged horror movie set within the X-men universe. He also states that they are going to be doing something “very, very different”.

The New Mutants is based off the long-standing spin-off comic series, which focuses on Professor X’s newest and younger class of mutants. These are teenage mutants who are just coming into their powers. Some casting news has been released recently. We knew that Anya Taylor Joy, of The Witch and Split, would be starring in the film, but now we know that she will be playing Magik, sister of Colossus. Magik was taken into limbo and possesses demon powers. We also know that everyone’s favorite Stark assassin, Maisie Williams, will be playing Wolfsbane, who can transform into a werewolf. Do you think the casting directors specifically sought out Maisie because of her wolf connections in Game of Thrones? I certainly hope so. Charlie Heaton, everyone’s favorite brooding hunk from Stranger Things, will be playing Sam “Cannonball” Guthrie, a mutant who can fly at jet speeds. Lastly, we know that Blu Hunt, known for her work on the Originals, will be playing Danielle Moonstar.
