13 Reasons Why- Season 2 Episode 10– Smile, Bitches

The season has been building up the mystery around Tony and what he has hidden in his past.  Lucas keeps coming around and Tony works hard to dodge him, but why?

In this episode, we finally learn more about Tony and his dark past and we FINALLY get to look inside the clubhouse.

Troublesome Tony

Tony is constantly surrounded by mystery and this week we are able to peek inside his world.  We first have the opportunity to see how Tony and Ryan got together. We come to learn that this duo had a sweet beginning.  They go on a date but while on the date they are harassed by Lucas (you know, the guy that is all beat up from the gym). Lucas calls them “faggots” and Tony ends up losing control and beats the crap out of him.

Tony

The cops show up and Tony takes off to the movie theater.  He begs Hannah to help him out so she hides him from the cops, which she does.  Now there is a debt owed from Tony to Hannah and that’s the reason she chose him to deliver the tapes, he owed her.

Of course, these flashbacks are all going off during his testimony, and he lies on the stand to protect himself and Hannah.    He denies that instructions were left.  He claims he doesn’t know why she chose him.

After his testimony, he goes to Olivia and they talk about the trial. Tony doesn’t blame Olivia for what she did and they make amends.

Tony then takes off to find the girl that testified against Tony at the beginning of the episode.  Yes, Hannah was a bully to her and treated her horribly with her 2 other friends. Though Hannah wasn’t the leader, she went along with it.  Hence the reason she changed schools to start over.   Tony goes to the girl and lets her know that Hannah was sorry for what she did.

The Clubhouse

Normally I go through these reviews based on characters, but the clubhouse has become a character of its own in the series.

At the end of the previous episode, Clay finally realized where the clubhouse was after helping Cyrus and Tyler vandalize the baseball field.

Clay, Justin, and Sheri meet up to strategize how they are going to get inside the clubhouse since there is a lock on the door.  After a couple of horrible ideas, Sheri says she will take on the challenge. She flirts with two of the baseball players to let her into the clubhouse.  Once they put the code in, she tells them she has a test, but then Bryce comes up and basically forces her into the clubhouse.

Once in the clubhouse, there is a TON of tension as she wants to get out and but the boys have other plans.  After she is basically forced to take a long hit on the marijuana she brought, the boys aren’t able to participate due to their upcoming game.  To cap off the experience they take a Polaroid shot of her and then place it a box with hundreds of other photos.

Sheri gets out without anything else happening, but she is shaken.  She tells Clay and Justin that she is not going back, but gives them the combination to the lock.  The two boys show up to the clubhouse during the baseball game, knowing that all the boys would be out playing.  Once in, they search around to find the box of Polaroids.  Zach comes in and disturbs their search. Shouldn’t he be playing baseball you ask?  Well yes, he should be, but during the game, he got pissed at Bryce and left the field mid-game.

Once Zach comes in there is a brief argument about what the guys are doing in there.  They showed their hand about looking for a box and Zach ends up giving them the box while also revealing that they should already have three of the photos. That’s right.  Bryce is the one that has been giving Clay the photos.  He did it because he is too cowardly while Clay is braver than him.

They leave and go back to Sheri.  They scan over all the photos and see that Nina has a photo in the box.  Hannah has a picture and so does Chloe (yes, Bryce’s girlfriend).  The plot thickens as it appears that half the girls at school have been victimized by the boys.
