Horror fans mouths salivate when a Blumhouse logo shows up on a trailer. They deliver time and time again with the likes of Get Out, Split, and The Purge series. But horror is not the only genre they’ve dipped into. In A Valley of Violence was an underrated riff on the classic spaghetti western genre. It never got wide release but it’s something everybody should check out. Now it looks like they have their sights set on the sci-fi action film with Upgrade. Plot synopsis and trailer below:
“In the near-future, technology controls nearly all aspects of life. Within this setting, a technophobe avenges his wife’s murder – and his own paralysis-causing injury – with the help of an experimental computer chip implant called ‘Stem.’

Granted I’m not a huge fan of Saw or Insidious, this looks right up my alley. It’s the sci-fi action slapstick gore of my dreams. Who knew a mix of Robocop and Innerspace would be this great? Dredd is the only movie of recent memory that had this kind of aesthetic on-screen. Logan Marshall-Green is going full Bruce Campbell with the right of goofy and badass. I’m hoping to see this at a midnight screening as I’ve heard from the SXSW reactions that it just kills with a crowd.

Check out Upgrade on June 1, 2018.
