Greetings to one and all! Welcome back to another edition of Overwatch Tips! Today we will be covering the ice cold assassin herself, Mei. Looks will deceive you; this sweet girl can really get on your nerves. A Mei with situational awareness and a steady aim is a nightmare. Let’s get started.

Endothermic Blaster

Mei’s primary fire has two different ways of using: shooting a short stream that over time will freeze your enemy solid for a couple of second and a charged icicle shot that requires precision to be used to its full capability. The normal combo to use this is to freeze and then unload icicles into to your target’s head as much as possible. Mei’s icicles also have no damage reduction due to range so if you think you can line up the shot from far away then take it!

Ice Wall

This is where situational awareness comes in with Mei. Your ice wall can cut off choke points long enough to give your team a breather from enemy fire. Also say your friendly Reinhardt has no shield and needs time to charge, you can put up your ice wall as a substitute so Rein can get his shield back.

Now Mei’s ultimate can create many opportunities for you and your team if well-coordinated and paired right. Making sure the enemy team is all congregated into one area so you can freeze them where they stand, and having teammates to pick them off will assure success. Also as of this post, Mei can lose her ult if he dies before it goes off, so make sure you do not die before your ult actually starts or it will disappear.

Counters

A Mei is very effective against heroes like D.Va and Genji because her primary freezing stream can go through defense matrix and deflect. Heroes that might be a tough time for Mei are heroes with long range capabilities but you can counter act that by work on your aim. But one hero in particular will give you a hard time and that’s Pharah. Even with great aim she moves very unpredictably and you do not get a zoomed aim. But if she seems to be no problem I applaud you because you have become a Mei god.

Well there we have it. Take the time to master Mei and I promise you will be able to rule games in the palm of your hand. If you are already good with heroes like Hanzo and Widowmaker maybe give her a shot! Those aiming skills might transfer over to her as well. Until next time guys!
