The moment fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe only thought was possible in their dreams—myself included—has actually happened. The Fantastic Four, X-Men, Deadpool, and more are now able to join the MCU thanks to the groundbreaking acquisition of Twentieth Century Fox.
That’s right. Characters like the Fantastic Four, Doom, X-Men, Kang The Conqueror, Silver Surfer, Galactus, Annihilus, Deadpool, and plenty more are now free game when it comes to future MCU storylines and films.
The massive deal—worth $66.1 million—sees Disney acquiring all of Twentieth Century Fox’s entertainment assets, excluding their news and sports properties. On top of the big Marvel properties included in the deal, Disney now has control over TV Shows owned by Fox such as American Horror Story and The Simpsons, and big movie tentpoles like Avatar. Planet Of The Apes, and Alien.

With such a massive historical deal, there will be plenty of government scrutiny aimed at Disney’s direction. Bob Iger predicts that it could take 12-18 months before the deal is fully worked out legally, and undergone proper evaluation by the government and other regulatory bodies. This means full control and use of the assets acquired won’t be able to taken advantage of until that time. So I wouldn’t expect to see any former Fox properties enter the MCU until after Avengers 4 (or maybe even during its post credits scene).
On a investor conference call, Bob Iger official said that the deal “provides Disney with the opportunity to reunite the X-Men, Fantastic Four, and Deadpool with the Marvel family under one roof and create richer, more complex worlds of inter-related characters and stories that audiences have shown they love.” In regards to keeping the Deadpool property R-Rated, Iger assured that “there might be an opportunity for a Marvel R-rated brand, as long as we let audiences know that it’s coming.”
I know personally I’m most excited to see the Fantastic Four get their proper due, as well as all of the new cosmic opportunities the deal opens up down the line.
