I am so glad that this week is the first week I am doing an episode review for The Exorcist because holy shit was it an intense episode. There will be Major SPOILERS in this article so if you are not caught up, go do it.

After the last few episodes, we now know that Andrew is the one who is possessed and that the demon is now coming to him in the appearance of his deceased wife, Nikki. Well, this completely messes with Andrew and the whole episode you can tell he is sliding deeper and deeper into her web of possession. After discussing what he saw while in the house from last weeks episode with Marcus, Father Tomas and Marcus decide they need to stay and try to help this family out. They find Rose and tell her they are going to get on their way but would like to come to the house one last time to say goodbye. They are invited to stay for dinner and that’s when shit starts to get real. When they are sitting down to eat dinner and are blessing the food, Andrew starts making inappropriately timed jokes, though there probably isn’t a good time to make a joke during the blessing, but especially not with two men who are priests/exorcists there. C’mon, Andrew.

After dinner Rose, Andrew, Marcus, and Tomas are all sitting around talking and Marcus starts grilling Andrew. This is probably my favorite scene from the entire series so far. It was acted perfectly. Ben Daniels and John Cho were just spectacular. Throughout the scene, Andrew will see Nikki at various times and Cho was on the edge of madness the entire time, but wouldn’t let himself go too far, and Daniels was very calm throughout the questioning. Holy crap, I could watch that scene over and over again. I might just do that. That scene ends with Andrew, rightfully, kicking Marcus and Tomas out of the house.

Meanwhile, Father Bennett and his associate, Mouse, are back in Chicago and find themselves going to visit Maria Walter (from Season 1). Maria looks ROUGH. She is cancer-ridden and has a demon dwelling inside her, so I don’t think anyone would look great under those circumstances. They give her a holy water IV drip and start asking questions. She hints at some sort of checkered past that Mouse has and that somehow Marcus is involved with that. I’m curious to explore that more. I haven’t cared too much about the side plot this season, but this episode got me excited about it.

Back in Washington, as Andrew is opening up to Rose and they are about to go to Bone Town he starts to see Nikki caressing Rose’s body and lying beside her. It makes him freak out and freeze. At the same time, Harper’s crazy mom finds Harper and is trying to abduct her. The priests come back to the house just in time to keep Harper in the house, but her mom has a knife and is willing to use it. Rose in the other room is getting concerned with what’s going on with Andrew and the Nikki starts using her demon powers and throws her against the wall and makes her levitate, Andrew walks over and starts choking her. At that same time, a window breaks in the hallway and all the kids are screaming for Andrew to come protect them from Harper’s mom. It’s a highly intense scene and I am not doing it any justice with my half-assed recap, but the important part is that Andrew comes out after Rose falls back to the ground and walks to Harper’s mom and picks her up by the throat and then stabs her in the stomach. Afterward, he falls to his knees and cries out making demon-like sounds and Marcus and Tomas both start walking towards him each with a crucifix in their hand and saying an exorcism prayer. This was my second favorite scene from the episode. The visual of Marcus and Tomas walking towards Andrew was great.

The effects are really well done, there are times when they could be better, but considering it is a network show, I think they knock it out of the park. The way they do the double eye thing is really cool and the levitation is always enjoyable as well.
