TGON Bakes: Brooklyn Nine Nine Kwazy Cupcakes

In the nineteenth episode of Brooklyn Nine Nine (aired on the 4th of March, 2014), Captain Holt was unable to quit playing a game on his phone. This game was ‘Kwazy Cupcake’, a game which was released in both the IOS and Android app stores as a real life video game sometime later. In honour of this game and the tv show, this is my own take on Kwazy Cupcakes with two delicious mini cupcake recipes to create your own real life Kwazy Cupcakes game!

Ingredients

Marshmallow cupcakes
63 gr butter, room temperature
63 gr sugar
63 gr self-rising flour
1 tablespoon milk
1 egg
Mini marshmallows

Frosting
125 gr butter, room temperature
125 gr powdered sugar
1 tablespoon hot water
Colored sanding sugar
Coloring

Brownie cupcakes
50 gr flour
75 gr butter, room temperature
75 gr sugar
30 gr dark chocolate, in pieces
1 egg, lightly beaten
¼ teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon vanilla extract

How to bake

Mini Marshmallow cupcakes
1. Preheat the oven to 170 °C or 338°F.
2. Prepare the cupcake tin by filling it with paper cupcake cases.
3. Mix the butter and sugar together until it is light and fluffy.
4. Add the egg and mix.
5. Slowly add the flour until it is all combined.
6. Then add the milk and mix until the batter is fluffy and smooth.
7. Fill the cupcake cases for 1/3th, before pushing in a single marshmallow.
8. Then fill the cases until they are 2/3 full.
9. Put the cupcakes immediately into the oven and bake for 15 minutes.
10. After the bake, let the cupcakes cool completely.

Frosting
1. Mix the butter with the mixer until it is fluffy.
2. Add the powdered sugar, a little bit at a time.
3. Mix until the mixture is light and creamy.
4. Add the water as last, then add some colouring if preferred.
5. Give the mixture one final mix.
6. Put the frosting in a piping bag and pipe the frosting on the cupcakes.
7. Finish the cupcakes with sanding sugar.

Brownie cupcakes
1. Preheat the oven to 170 °C or 338°F.
2. Put the salt and the flour together in a bowl and set it off to the side.
3. Break the chocolate into small pieces.
4. Put the pieces of chocolate together with the butter in a bowl so it can be melted Au bain-marie.
5. But a pan on the stove filled with hot water on medium heat. Put the bowl with the chocolate and butter on top of it, make sure the water isn’t touching the bowl.
6. Keep stirring until it is smoothly mixed together.
7. In a large bowl, add the melted chocolate mixture to the sugar.
8. Beat in the egg and then the vanilla.
9. Then add the flour mixture. Mix well until everything is smooth.
10. Fill the cupcake cases for about 2/3rd with the batter.
11. Bake the cupcakes roughly 15 minutes and let cool completely before serving
