In a month he or ‘It’ will be back! Beware of the red balloon, because that usually means that Pennywise isn’t too far away. It is probably one of Stephen King’s most terrifying creations and ever since the 1990’s two-part series the source of many nightmares. But after 27 years, we have yet again a chance to look him in the eyes.
The movie tells the story of The Losers Club, a group of seven misfits in the town of Derry, Maine who are terrorized by a strange shape-shifting entity, who calls itself Pennywise the Dancing Clown. In the summer of 1989 kids go missing in the town, while Pennywise keeps appearing in Derry.
The kids try to work out what the clown is, and whether it’s connected to the disappearance of several children in the town, including the younger brother of gang member Bill. In order to defeat It once and for all, each member of The Losers Club has to face their own personal demons in the process.
Many actors and even an actress were offered the role of Pennywise, like Mark Rylance, Ben Mendelsohn, Kirk Acevedo, Richard Armitage, Hugo Weaving and Tilda Swinton. The role was eventually given to 26-year-old Swedish actor Bill Skarsgard, who “blew the socks off” producers during his audition, beating main rival Hugo Weaving.
The seven kids in the Losers Club will be played by Sophia Lillis, Finn Wolfhard, Jaeden Lieberher, Jack Dylan Grazer, Wyatt Oleff, Chosen Jacobs and Jeremy Ray Taylor.
This movie will be the first of two, with the second set 27 years after the events of this one, because Pennywise always returns after 27 years. And since it has been 27 years since the TV series was aired, the remake comes at the perfect, yet extremely creepy time.
