Marvel Television have had quite the presence over the first few days at San Diego Comic Con this year, choosing to save some surprises from Disney’s own D23 Expo last week. Runaways got a release date, Inhumans got a trailer, Defenders screened an entire episode and Iron Fist got a Season 2.
But Marvel’s big panel, the Marvel Studios panel in which they discuss their upcoming slate of movies, didn’t come until Saturday. Not to be outdone by DC, Marvel brought their A-game. Let’s take a look at some of the insane things we learned!
- Thor: Ragnarok got a new trailer and it is insane! We see some awesome shots of Thor, Hulk, Valkyrie and Loki in action against Hela and Skurge. Hulk fights Fenris Wolf, Thor fights Surtur, and we see Thor really showing off why they call him the God of Thunder. Plus, Hulk talks! Footage was also shown.
- Captain Marvel news, finally some Captain Marvel news! The movie starring Brie Larson will be set in the early 1990s, and she will fight against the Skrulls – the iconic alien race finally making their MCU debut, with concept art shown. Samuel L. Jackson will return as Nick Fury, back before he lost his eye. Concept art of Brie Larson in the role was shown, finally unveiling the character’s costume. We also see Captain Marvel fighting what appears to be Kree soldiers. Kree-Skrull War, anyone?
- Ant-Man and the Wasp Cast unveiled! The Winsome Wasp has long been my favorite Avenger, and it brings a legitimate tear to me eye to see Janet van Dyne portrayed by none other than Michelle Pfeiffer. Paul Rudd and Michael Peña introduced her by quickly recapping the entire MCU to her in the style of Luis from Ant-Man. Laurence Fishburne also joins the cast as Dr. Bill Foster, also known as Goliath. Previously cast actors Hannah John-Kamen and Randall Park were officially announced as Iron Man villain Ghost and S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Jimmy Woo, respectively. Footage, behind-the-scenes clips and concept art were also shown.
- Kevin Feige was presented SDCC’s own Inkpot Award!
- Footage of Black Panther was shown! It showed the Dora Milaje fighting Ulysses Klaue in a casino. His arm that Ultron severed in Avengers: Age of Ultron has been replaced with a prosthetic one that opens up into Klaw’s classic weapon. Okoye kicks ass, and Erik Killmonger is seen with a golden Black Panther suit as he fights T’Challa. The cast received a standing ovation.
- Trailer for Avengers: Infinity War shown…again! The trailer debuted last week at the D23 Expo, but has yet to be released to the public. It shows the Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy fighting Thanos and his Black Order alongside Doctor Strange, Black Panther and Spider-Man. Captain America sports a beard and Black Widow is blonde, as the pair are undercover.
