Somewhere In the past, Paramount and Hasbro brought together a team of writers to come up with ideas for spinoffs and sequels for the Transformers franchise, starting with director Michael Bay’s Transformers 5 this year. The release dates for Transformers 6 and 7 were announced for somewhere in 2018 and 2019. Roughly a year ago Paramount and Hasbro released a statement which confirms that the 2018 project is actually a Bumblebee spinoff. Here is a snippet of the statement from the Hasbro’s Toy Fair presentation of 2016.

“On June 8, 2018, a new film is being developed which will tell the never before heard story of Bumblebee, one of the most beloved characters from Hasbro’s Transformers universe. A third new film will continue the story with the next chapter of Hasbro’s iconic franchise which is scheduled for release on June 28, 2019.”

Ever since the release of that statement some more details regarding this movie have been announced. We now know that Travis Knight will be directing. He is mostly known for animated movies like ParaNorman and The Boxtrolls. Bumblebee would mark his first live-action film. The screenplay, which emerged from writers room project, is from Christina Hodson. Lorenzo Di Bonaventura, Tom DeSanto, Michael Bay and Steven Spielberg are producing with Hasbro’s Brian Goldner and Stephen Davis.

So far only one cast member has been announced to play one of the main roles: Hailee Steinfeld. What kind of role she will be playing is so far unknown. The same goes for the plot or any details of the story. The only thing we know so far is that the movie will be set in the 1980s era, the era when Transformers was born. So maybe we will get some insights in how Bumblebee lost his ability to speak or how he became the fan favourite Autobot we know him to be!

What do you think about this spin-off? Are you excited or completely not? Let me know, I’d love to hear!

This movie is set for release on June 8, 2018!
