If you know fighting games, you know that each has its own set of fans desperate to know who they can play as in upcoming iterations. And sometimes, even people close to the game and developer can’t hold the excitement in, which is why we are here today with the full roster of the upcoming Marvel Vs. Capcom already revealed months before the game is even due out on September 19th. This list comes courtesy of NeoGaf user Ryce, who has been on the ball in regards to previous leaks, so you can hold your grains of salt.
On Marvel’s side we have:
- Captain America
- Captain Marvel
- Doctor Strange
- Iron Man
- Rocket Raccoon/Groot
Meanwhile on the Capcom side of things:
- Arthur (Ghosts ‘n Goblins)
- Chris Redfield (Resident Evil)
- Chun-Li (Street Fighter)
- Dante (Devil May Cry)
- Firebrand (Ghosts ‘n Goblins)
- Jedah (Darkstalkers)
- Monster Hunter (…Monster Hunter)
- Morrigan (Darkstalkers)
- Nemesis (Resident Evil)
- Ryu (Street Fighter)
- Nathan “Rad” Spencer (Bionic Commando)
- Strider Hiryu (Strider)
- Mega Man X (Mega Man X)
As you can tell, there’s not an even number between the two sides and Ryce was quick to point out that the 14th character on Capcom’s side may be Frank West of Dead Rising fame, but he hasn’t been able to confirm.
For my main grievance, I feel that this roster is depressing when compared to that of the previous games. There had been reports once the game was formally announced that due to the increased existence of the MCU since MvC3 came out, there would be a stronger focus on the characters from that film universe, thus taking out mainstays like Wolverine, Sentinel, and other X-Men/Fantastic Four related characters due to Fox still owning the film rights to those series. I had hoped those were simply rumors, but now it seems all but confirmed. The Marvel side is now made up completely of characters that have appeared in the MCU (with the exception of Nova and Captain Marvel, the latter of which will be getting her own film shortly) and it’s unknown if any Fox characters will appear in DLC, but it’s doubtful.
The Capcom side is also kinda lacking to me as there are only actually three new characters and that’s considering the fact that it’s Mega Man X over regular Mega Man. And there are some odd decisions on who was brought back from the previous game. Where’s my Vergil and Albert Wesker? Why is Nemesis back? Who actually mained Nathan “Rad” Spencer, especially with it being his reboot design? I will say though, the fact that Monster Hunter is included into the mix is a interesting concept.
How do you feel about the roster? Are there any major standouts that rile you up? Or maybe you’re excited? Let us know!
