Powerless Against Cancellation

Last week, fans of the NBC sitcom Powerless, starring Vanessa Hudgens, were devastated when the network unceremoniously pulled the remaining 3 episodes (including one starring Adam West!) off the schedule for the remainder of the season.

It’s no secret that the show was having a hard time finding its audience – but it didn’t help that the episodes were aired entirely out of order and you never knew wether you’d get a rerun or a new episode.

The premise of regular people in a superhero world working to make gadgets to keep other non-supers safe is hilarious and has so much potential! With a little more love and opportunity, Powerless could have worked through the kinks in between seasons and come back new and fresh.

Unfortunately, being pulled from the schedule – while not an official cancellation – does not bode well for the future of the show. Double unfortunately, because the show is developed, made and produced by NBC for NBC, the odds of selling it to a streaming service are not great.
The best outcome fans can hope for is that NBC posts the remaining episodes online somewhere, or burns them off in the summer.

RIP Powerless, I hope Hudgens, Danny Pudi, Ron Funches, Christina Kirk & Jennie Pierson find another vehicle that will do their talents justice!
