There’s been a lot of news in the Better Call Saul fandom this week but let’s start with the most important info of all: we’ve got an ACTUAL premiere date. Mark your calendars for April 10th at 10pm EST (and join me in prayer to your deity of your choice that season 3 continues the tradition of a black-and-white opener starring everyone’s favorite sad Cinnabon manager). Now, on to some not entirely surprising but incredibly exciting news. Earlier in the week, AMC released a fake commercial for Los Pollos Hermanos featuring Giancarlo Esposito reprising his role as Gus Fring.

Given the fact that last season’s episode titles spelled out FRINGS BACK, along with the mysterious note left on Mike’s car in the finale, it wasn’t too much of a stretch to think that Gus would be making his entry into the world of Better Call Saul during its third season. This was confirmed by both the teaser commercial (which made me crave Pollos all over again) and the Better Call Saul panel at the Television Critics Association’s winter press tour, where Esposito appeared in character and handed out boxes of Pollos Hermanos chicken.

When asked about the Better Call Saul version of Gus Fring, Esposito said, “He’s a different guy. He’s a little fresher, a little less jaded. The time period alone takes us to a time where his look may be little bit different. I wanted him to be little more hopeful, a little more energetic, maybe not as definitive in some of his actions because he’s a Gus that we’ve never met before.” But fans of Breaking Bad’s Gus will be assured to know that Esposito also said “He is still terrifying, there is no doubt about it.”

I can’t believe we still have months to go before the premiere, but we’ll get through this never-ending hiatus together. Now excuse me while I go get myself some fried chicken and curly fries because it’s all I’ve been thinking about for days.
