The Good Place - Chapter 11: Pobody’s Nerfect

Eleanor is desperately trying to stay out of The Bad Place, Chidi doesn’t know how to respond to “I love you,” and Michael finds out everything about JianYu…his real identity and his marriage to the robot Janet.

The gang is still working hard on Eleanor’s case, trying to come up with something super convincing to present to God Sean. Tahani thinks of applying the formula used to people’s earthly actions to Eleanor’s actions in The Good Place to prove that she’s not rotten deep down.

Fake Eleanor spends most of the episode doing good deeds for people and apologizing to them but her score is not going up. The only instance of growth she sees is when she gives Chidi some selfless advice regarding what he should do about Real Eleanor’s advances.

Let’s back up, over breakfast that morning, Real Eleanor gives Chidi a little fortune cookie note in his hard-boiled egg that says “I love you.”

Being an ethics professor, he’s still super conflicted about his feelings and the motivations behind the things he feels. He’s not sure if he loves her, likes her as a friend, or thinks he should love her because they’re supposedly soulmates.

When he shares all this with Fake Eleanor, she puts her feelings and desires aside to advise him to go for RE and be happy.

In non human news, Janet & Jason are still married but he’s sad that her dad (Michael) doesn’t know about the relatioship. Janet keeps insisting that Michael isn’t her dad and that she’s not a girl, but Jason will not listen.

They tell Michael everything and he looks like he’s going to lose it. Can he trust anyone in the neighborhood anymore?! Is anyone WHO THEY’RE SUPPOSED TO BE?! WHY IS THE UNIVERSE BROKEN???

Not surprisingly, Jason fails that “decent human” test with the glowing cube. He always tells the truth but his answers are so very wrong. During this process, we also learn that he suffocated in a safe he was hiding in as part of a plan to rob a pizza place.

Trying to recreate the night before everything went to shit in the ‘hood, Tahani throws another huge party and invites everyone. Michael gives a speech that inspires literally zero people and Eleanor sinceerely apologizes to everyone, ending it with “pobody’s nerfect,” a joke that all the nerds love.

Once FakeEleanor realizes that her points total will never go up because she’s only doing good deeds for selfish reasons, she makes tshirts for everyone and writes them notes that she has Tahani, RealEleanor & Chidi deliver. This keeps them busy all day so they don’t realize that she’s decided to go to The Bad Place and end everyone’s pain.

They figure out Eleanor’s plan and head to the train station but they’re too late. Eleanor, Janet & Jason (they are running away because Michael was going to reboot Janet) steal Sean’s train and head to THE MEDIUM PLACE!

A woman named Mindy Sinclair lives in a neutral zone all by herself where Eleanor and the newlyweds think they will be safe…I’m guessing the situation’s a lot more nuanced than that
