The Last Man on Earth 3x07: “Mama’s Hideaway”

Carol tries to persuade her new mom, Gail, to wear a matching outfit for a family photo for Christmas cards. It’s a hard pass for Gail. After Gail walks off, Lewis suggests that the three of them (Carol, Gail, and Tandy) just wear regular clothing so that Gail will actually agree to it. He thanks Tandy for their trip in the previous episode.

Todd sees Melissa with a baby doll. He greets the doll, Alden, as if it were a real baby, because Melissa has been kind of losing her mind recently. Melissa says that the doll isn’t real, but then immediately starts patting the baby’s face and saying “Shhhhh, mommy didn’t mean it.” Todd refers to himself as Melissa’s boyfriend, and she breaks up with him because he doesn’t want a baby.

Carol and Tandy attempt to sneak attack Gail with a matching family photo by wearing clothes similar to what Gail already has on. Gail refuses to open her eyes for the picture. They follow her down the hall, but she doesn’t open her eyes until she steps in the elevator without them.

Lewis practices in a flight simulator. He wants to get good enough at it so that someday he can fly a real plane to Tokyo to look for his partner, Mark, in case he’s alive but unable to get back to the U.S. He tells this to an inquiring, hormonal Erica, and she cries over how beautiful it is.

Todd tells Tandy about his breakup with Melissa and expresses his concern. Tandy promises to talk with her.

Carol finds Gail drinking wine on the roof and invites her to dinner. It becomes a fight over Carol disapproving of Gail’s unhealthy habits. Gail grounds her new daughter for being disrespectful.

When Tandy checks on Melissa, she tells him to take off his pants so they can make a baby. He reminds her that he is married to Carol, so he can’t, but she reminds him that the plan back in Tucson, before Todd came along, was for Tandy to get both women pregnant in order to start repopulating the planet. Melissa kicks him out of her room once she sees he’s not interested.

Gail breaks into a liquor store and takes a bunch of alcohol.

Carol glues googly eyes on the family pictures where Gail’s eyes were shut.

Tandy tells Todd about Melissa’s proposition. Todd says that she had also asked Lewis. Tandy becomes obsessed with whether he or Lewis had been asked first.

Tandy tries to ask Carol about the Melissa/Lewis situation, and Carol snaps, saying that sometimes a lady just needs her space. It clicks for her that that’s how Gail has been feeling too. She leaves to apologize to “mom.”

Drunk Gail finds a good place for “mam’s hideaway,” since Carol knows about her other hideaway, the roof.

Tandy finds Lewis. He fails at small talk and then asks when Melissa had asked Lewis to impregnate her. It was after breakfast, early that morning.

The power goes out, leaving Gail stranded in the elevator.

Lewis discovers that the electricity in this building is being shared with the other four buildings on the lot. He turns the power off to those other buildings, in order to save on power. Little do they know that Gail is currently stuck in the elevator of one of those other buildings.

Melissa fishes Alden out of a pond and scolds him for swimming too soon after eating. Todd tries to make amends with Melissa by giving in and pretending to be Red from The Shawshank Redemption. She’s confused about what he’s doing. Then he gets real and says that he’s going to be there for her, even when she pushes him away.

Gail fires a gun, hoping someone will hear her and let her out.

Tandy, Lewis, and Erica are singing karaoke when Carol asks if anyone has seen her mom. Tandy lists places Gail could possibly be. Todd barges in and tells everyone to follow him.
