9 Unconventional Movies To Celebrate Christmas In July

It is famously said that Christmas comes but once a year, but many people wish they could celebrate year-round and bring yuletide cheer even in the midst of Summer. Even the hallmark channel is getting in on the action. For those people here are few movie and television specials to capture that holiday spirit even during the dog days of summer

It’s Always Sunny Christmas

This could be watched closer to Christmas, but with all the other Christmas sitcom episodes and special the It’s Always Sunny Christmas episode, which is double the length of a normal episode, would make for great atypical Christmas in July viewing. While definitely set close to Christmas the fact it doesn’t snow in the episode(unless you count the gang getting blasted by a snow machine towards the end) and it ends with the gang throwing rocks at trains make it perfect viewing anytime of year, but July works just fine.

Rudolph and Frosty’s Christmas in July

The original Christmas in July classic from 1979. Back before the MCU was even an idea Rankin and Bass, the producers of your childhood Christmases brought together their iconic characters Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer and Frosty the snowman as well as other characters for a crossover sequel to both the Rudolph special and Frosty the snowman special which saw them fight the evil wizard Winterbolt and save a circus on 4^th of July.  It would be the last Rankin and Bass special to feature Rudolph or Frosty

The Die Hard Series

There is a constant debate on whether Die Hard is even a Christmas movie, so why not get around it but watching it in July? Better yet have a double(or even triple) feature with Die Hard with a Vengeance or Live Free or Die Hard which are both great summer blockbusters. You could probably throw in Die Hard 2, but like the first one it is also a Christmas movie and might be worth skipping until December

Dumb and Dumber

I’m really only including this because one of the main characters is named Lloyd Christmas and it would be hard to argue it’s a Christmas movie despite some of the winter-like scenes in Aspen, but it is a fun road trip movie which brings a fair amount of cheer

A Sudden Case of Christmas

Technically set in August, this delightful family movie is actually a remake of the Italian movie Improvvisamente Natale starring Danny Devito(in a role way different than Frank Reynolds in It’s Always Sunny) about a young girl who decides to have Christmas in the summer to stop her parents from divorcing. It’s a heartfelt movie that makes for great half-mas viewing

American Psycho

This movie technically has one scene set at a Christmas Party so that alone gives it an excuse to be on this list

The Harry Potter Series

With plenty of scenes set around Christmas in the 8 part film franchises(and 7 book series) and plenty of action otherwise the Harry Potter is a popular series that can bridge the gap between holiday cheer and summer blockbuster. Gremlins 2

The Original Gremlins is definitely a Christmas movie and the whackier sequel kind of abandons that holiday spirit which is why it’s perfect for a half-mas celebration. You get the joy of watching Gremlins and know that you aren’t fully jumping the gun on Christmas

Christmas in July (1940 Film)

The title is a little misleading as the plot has nothing to do with celebrating Christmas in July, but it did help popular the phrase “Christmas in July”, so it deserves a place on this list.
