How Would Spider-Man Fare In The Justice League?

Two is better than one. In some cases, many is better than one. That is the idea that the Justice League and the Avengers rely on to make them even stronger and reinforce Earth’s defenses. Each team has powerful members than make each team formidable and well rounded. Each team always has a revolving door of characters. Some characters are mainstays while others pop in from time to time. There is one character in particular that would make perfect sense if he was on a team like this permanently. That character is Spider-Man. Spider-Man does have history with the Avengers, but what would be his dynamic with the Justice League if the grand multiverse would allow it?

Spider-Man does lend a helping hand to the Avengers when a threat does rise to an exceptional level. He joins the team, offers his fists and/or brains, and stays with them until the threat is over. His time being on the team is natural because he has great synergy with the other Avengers due to his personality, his skills, his IQ, his abilities, his experience, and his inspiration. When Spider-Man joins the Avengers, he’s always a welcomed addition. But that does not mean he is always a member. Contrary to what the MCU might have people think, Spider-Man does not make it mission to join the Avengers. He does make it a mission to help all he can however he can and sometimes that does mean he joins the Avengers. But that is temporary. All though Spider-Man has what it takes to fight state and global threats, even universal threats, on the regular, he prefers to stay at street level to give them a hero. He fights for the little guys and he takes pride in that. Even though the MCU changed his ambitions a bit, they did get it right when he said ‘you can’t be a friendly neighborhood Spider-Man if there’s no neighborhood’. Which means, he has the protection of average, everyday people in mind. So, Spider-Man helps and gets along with the Avengers, but when the job is done, he is more than comfortable to go back to Queens and protect the streets there.

If he were to hop in the DC universe and continue to do what he does there, of course that will gain the attention of the entire Justice League. And he will do what he does with the Avengers, when a threat does rise to an extinction level, Spider-Man will join the League, off his experience, skills, intellect until the threat is defeated. And once it is, Spider-Man will go back to where he was running his operations. He’ll be an honorary member but nothing permanent. What could possibly be different though, is a potential harder push by the Justice League to recruit Spider-Man to a permanent member. The Justice League takes their membership pretty seriously. More arguably more serious than the Avengers. Each member of the Justice League must have a proof of their membership. And the area of their expertise is heavily considered as well. It brings more versatility and experience to the League as a whole. Or just bring in certain members to reinforce an area they excel at already. And if the big three – Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman – want Nightwing to join and ultimately lead the Justice League, Spider-Man would be an ideal candidate because he and Nightwing are so delightfully similar. Both are youthful, encouraging, charismatic, hopeful, funny, punch above their weight and optimistic. Those are great qualities to have for anybody and even better to have on a team so they could humble and humanize a team composed goddesses, all-powerful aliens, dimension breakers, and sorcerers. The mix of Spider-Man’s powers, IQ, and character are the idyllic qualities for a recruit to be a part of the Justice League. They could even recruit him to start the next generation of the Justice League to pair with Nightwing. But Spider-Man would be honored but would still ultimately pass and go back to his town to protect the residents there. At the least he would keep a membership in the Justice League as a back pocket option, a retirement plan. It may even be a case where the Justice League needs him but Spider-Man does not need the Justice League.

It’s obvious Spider-Man is a crucial piece no matter where he is at. It could be New York, it could be Queens and his impact is vital to the area’s protection. The Avengers could call him up and Spider-Man has the skills to the turn the tide in the Avenger’s favor. His skills and his morale boosting are major keys to do that. And the same could be said about the Justice League. The League could very well be highly invested in recruiting Spider-Man full time because of everything he brings to the table. But Spider-Man is dedicated to the smaller scope. He is more than willingly to help his fellow heroes when the world or universe is threatened but he will always go back to his roots because that’s where he feels he truly belongs. Helping a neighbor is his true calling and he won’t deter from it entirely no matter who wants him to join the big leagues permanently.
